Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

SEN. ZELL MILLER COMES TO LIBERTY UNIVERSITY

Sen. Zell Miller, the lifelong Democrat who broke party ranks to support George W. Bush in the 2004 elections, spoke to an overflow audience of 10,000 students, faculty and staff at Liberty University on March 9, urging our young people to live out their lives of faith within a culture that is increasingly forsaking the foundational truths of the Bible. In his speech, Sen. Miller advocated the acceptance of the Ten Commandments in the public square and a return to biblical values in America.

"The admonition that you cannot serve God and mammon hits us between the eyes and forces us to choose on issues like public displays of the Ten Commandments, or abortion on demand, or stem cell research or homosexual marriage," Sen. Miller stated. He called same-sex marriage "a very dangerous social experiment" and denounced "activist judges" who have placed their stamp of approval on it.

The one-time Georgia governor reminded the audience that a beautiful depiction of Moses handing down the Ten Commandments appears at the U.S. Supreme Court building: "It is the perfect display for the highest court in our land, for it was the Ten Commandments that provided the foundation of not only our moral law, but our judicial law."

He continued, "Larger than life, Moses is shown displaying the Ten Commandments in one of the most public places, in our nation"s capitol city. So why not in our schools, in our city halls and our courthouses across this Christian nation?"

Sen. Miller believes America is at a pivotal historic place as despisers of our Judeo-Christian culture accelerate their attempts to conceal and deny our nation"s Christian heritage.

"We have reached a critical juncture as a nation," he stated firmly. "If we continue to allow indecency in our courts, in our schools, entertainment, businesses and in our nation"s capitol, we will go the way of those other civilizations that first rotted and then disappeared. But if we replace this deficit of decency with common sense, compassion, tough love and the truth of God"s word, our example of liberty and freedom will become a beacon throughout the world."

Sen. Miller, 73, said he believes there is a great task before this generation of believers, and, utilizing the words of American Founder Benjamin Rush, said "it has been assigned to us by Providence."

"There"s always an ongoing struggle between liberty and tyranny, between good and evil," said Sen. Miller. "And we must always make a choice between the two."

The Georgia Democrat, author of the new book, The Deficit of Decency, believes that the American culture is recurrently abandoning the foundational cultural truths that upheld the nation through its naissance and throughout much of its history.

Sen. Miller, who retired from the Senate earlier this year, said he believes that countries also have souls, different from our personal souls, but encompassing a spirit that largely reflects the nation"s culture.

To that end, he said, "I believe God determines the fates of nations."

He charged that many Americans, including some leading members of his party, while touting tolerance, have been involved in mocking the beliefs of conservative people of faith. Nevertheless, he said there is always hope for a return to the foundations, noting that Saul of Tarsus was a tormentor of Christians before answering God"s call to follow Him.

On the issue of abortion, Sen. Miller referred to several biblical passages and quoted Mother Teresa ("The nation that will kill its child in the womb of its mother has lost its soul") in condemning the 45 million aborted lives in America.

"If those 45 million children had lived, today they would be defending our country, filling our jobs, and paying Social Security benefits. But we still do not raise our voices loud enough; still we watch as 4,000 babies are killed every single day in America " all those human beings with all their potential, just flushed down the commode."

Sen. Miller, who said he has in recent years become adamant about voicing his faith, closed by expressing his great honor to address the Liberty University family. He said it would be an experience that he would "long remember." His wife of 51 years, Shirley, joined him for his appearance at Liberty.

I could vote for him also, he is from the old democrat party, The party as he knew it has left him. Zell is a good man, the liberals hate him as bad as any republican.

Just spent some time on a web site actually checking out his voting record and some qoutes. His views are alot like mine on many subjects so I guess I'll have to give him two thumbs up.

He's rated as a moderate which surprised me.

Only goes to show how far left some others in the Democratic Party have wandered. If Zell is a moderate, then what on earth is Ted Kennedy?
Feel free to respond!

Not a democratic moderate. A moderate politician.

What are 90% of the "republiclones".

Miller is more conservative on many issues than the demos' supposed enemies, the republiclones.
