Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Our Court System Isn't the only one that stinks

I know the Scandinavian countries are much more liberal than are we, but this is ridiculous!

Abuser's sentence 'ridiculous'
An eight-year-old girl wrote a letter to Prime Minister Kjell Magne Bondevik asking him to help ensure that the man that abused her got a stern sentence. She got no answer, and the assailant got four months.
Newspaper Drammens Tidende reported the story of an eight-year-old girl who has yet to learn of how soon her attacker will be free again.

"My name is **** and I was nearly raped by a horrible man." This was the beginning of the girl's plea to the PM after she was told the likely sentence of the 23-year-old man who sneaked into her bedroom, stripped naked and kissed and fondled her, would be months rather than years.

The girl asked Bondevik to help see that the accused get an eight-year prison sentence. She never received a reply.

"My daughter thinks it was mean, not getting an answer. She usually says that Kjell Magne looks so kind," the girl's mother told the newspaper.

The maximum penalty for this type of assault is six years but the prosecution only asked for six months. This week, sentence was passed in Drammen Municipal Court. - the verdict - four months.

"We knew the sentence would be low, but this is ridiculous. We feel mocked," the mother said.

Local politician Rune Bugge Persson, a relative of the girl, was shocked.

"Politicians in parliament pass laws and believe they have influence, but this, and a series of other verdicts where children are the victims of assault, show that politicians have no influence," Persson said.

The girl's mother said she had no idea how to explain the verdict to her daughter and said she could not comprehend why judges did not use the full extent of punishment allowed by law. She said she would not appeal the sentence.

"It wouldn't succeed. Now I understand why people give up, those that can't stand to fight the system," the mother told Drammens Tidende

You are obviously intolerant of child molesters.

You must be a "fundie" a "bigot" or even a "conservative".

The real problem with pedophilia is that not only is it criminal behavior, it is also an illness. And unfortunately, there is no cure for this illness now nor is there one on the horizon. While it can be argued as to how culpable people these people are for the behavior, there is little doubt that they will always be a threat to public safety. This may sound harsh, but it may the be that the only way to deal with child molesters is permenant involuntary institutionalization.

Im pro death for them. think that will help cut back on some of the others actions if they see molesters in the news being killed for it? They bring nothing positive to the earth.

If the guy would have been a cat molester, you'd have been screaming to give him the chair.

CalDoc, I am one of those that believe permanent involuntary institutionalization is probably the way to go.

Maybe Bubbles will come by and see M.J. during visitation.

I would personally love to see them sumarily exectued upon conviction. Stand them up in the town square (we still have those here in the South) and shoot them like a rabid Skunk.
My Granddaughter was molested by her half brother when she was 4, my wife and I have been living with the result for the past 5 years (we are raising her and hope to finally adopt her soon). Therapists, Doctors, counselors, schools, lawyers, courts and judges take up a lot of our time and our granddaughter still suffers from this. She is getting better, but it kills me to watch the process.
I won't go into the details, but suffice it to say the "System" failed (again) and yes I have considered, but didn't take, retribution to a personal level.

I have a cure, 357 or a sharp knife. That person will never harm a living thing again.

Coastie, I can not imagine what you are going through and hopefully time and loving grandparants like you will heal the hurt. I have found that children are very resiliant and with a good support system usually emerge from childhood traumas with little permanent harm. I can also understand your feelings about wanting to take personal retribution but I am glad you did not act on them. Your grandaughter needs you to be with her, you can not give her the support she needs if you are in jail.

When you say that the Justice system failed, I think you are implying that the perpetrator is now free. My personal feeling (I am not sure everyone in the medical community would agree) is that these people have an illness for which there is no cure and it makes them a danger to the rest of society. That is why I believe that after these people have completed serving their prison sentences for the crimes they have committed, instead of being set free, they should be transferred to and confined in a locked psychiatric facility for the rest of their lives. I do not think this would violate Constitutional rights. The government has long had the power to quarantine individuals who had health conditions that made them a threat to the general public.

OH, we are in 100% agreement. Once a child molester, always a child molester. Their recidivism rate is incredible, it's something like 70%.

I don't know what's more sickening, the molestation or the pathetic sentence!

You were starting to lose me there after the first couple sentences, but you came back strong with the last one.

I almost hate myself for saying it, but I believe repeat sex offenders should be committed. I believe every person should have an opportunity to redeem him- or herself at least once. That's a difficult idea to support because I know eventually (probably rather quickly) some sicko is going to get out and hurt someone again. But I want to be sure that an otherwise good person who made an extremely poor choice has a chance at a normal life.

One specific instances I have in mind would be of an young adult committing statutory rape against a minor. My wife and I have been together since high school. When we first started going out, I was 16; she was 18. I can assure you neither of us were ever abused by the other, and we've lived happily ever after since. But the law doesn't always take that into consideration.

Having said that, I think it's fair to say that most sex offenders probably are hopeless deviants.
