Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default why don't we let the cops do their jobs?

More knee jerk reaction which frustrates the hell out of me. This situation is IDENTICAL to that of gun control.

You have some idiots who are going to abuse the system, so we have to have nanny goobermint come in and restrict everyone's access.

Bet there are actually some firearms owners who are all for this type of legislation, not realizing the exact parallel that it draws.

Lawmakers may restrict ingredient

Inspiration for a new round of legislative efforts to stanch the traffic of methamphetamine in Wisconsin came from laws adopted last year in Oklahoma, which then saw a steep decline in the number of meth lab seizures.

A centerpiece of the Oklahoma experiment has been restrictions on over-the-counter sale of cold medications, which contain pseudoephedrine, a substance that is separated from the legal drugs and recombined to create meth. State officials have credited this limit with an 80% drop in the number of meth lab seizures.

In part using the Oklahoma experience as rhetorical fuel, other states have gotten into the act, too, in what is becoming a meth law stampede. More than two dozen legislatures are considering changes to halt meth traffic, with the chief push being the restriction of access to pseudoephedrine.

An 80% drop in lab seizures only means that they seized 80% fewer labs ,
not that they stopped 80% more meth from being cooked . The folks that do that will find a way to get the main igredient no matter what law they dream up to stop them . I've been wondering for several years now where they find Red Phosphorus .

Isn't that used in the making of Matches? They could just scrape off a ton of match heads and get it out of there.

Yup, I was right. Did a quick search and "strike anywhere" matches have red phosphorus in their heads.

Regular safety matches have the red phosphorus on the sandpaper on the book.

Kevin this one statement had me wondering how you would know this was an ingredient in meth, then of course our resident Meth expert answered your question with where he gets his![8D]

Actually it is a working method of cutting down on meth production. Without certain over the counter ingredients its much tougher to make.

Death penalty within 2 weeks to anyone caught making the stuff - thats the quickest way to stop production.

I got a big ol' shot of this firsthand the other day when I was carded when I tried to buy Sudafed.

I asked her why and she told me that people grind it up to make "drugs". I informed her that it already was a drug and said, "So what?" She gives me an attitude and claims that it's a new law, which I told her was absolute crap, that I would've heard about that one. I asked to see the manager.

He comes out and gives me this line about how the grocery store was just trying to cooperate with local law enforcement and would be helping out by carding everyone who buys it. I told him that I would no longer be shopping in his store. This isn't the first time this chain has tried to do stuff like this. If you're under 25 and buy alcohol, they make you sign a record book, then they started carding everyone who bought alcohol, and now this. I told him to stick it.

Man how things have changed.
My grandfather owned a tavern and would do inventories of his stock on saturdays, days in which I was usually over there bugging him, fishing, or bugging him to take me fishing. Frequently, he'd give me money and a written note which I would toddle down to the liquor store 2 blocks away to pick him up a bottle or two of something.

Let me guess... Pick 'n Save?

I'm actually a casual friend with the manager of the liquor store in Waukesha, she tells me that they card everyone because they had a problem with some cashiers in milwaukee purposely selling liquor/beer to minors (which of course is a felony - contributing), so corporate makes them card everyone. I don't mind it, they're just covering their own butts.

but it is sad that because of greedy lawyers and irresponsible idiots that they have to go that far.
