More knee jerk reaction which frustrates the hell out of me. This situation is IDENTICAL to that of gun control.
You have some idiots who are going to abuse the system, so we have to have nanny goobermint come in and restrict everyone's access.
Bet there are actually some firearms owners who are all for this type of legislation, not realizing the exact parallel that it draws.

Lawmakers may restrict ingredient

Inspiration for a new round of legislative efforts to stanch the traffic of methamphetamine in Wisconsin came from laws adopted last year in Oklahoma, which then saw a steep decline in the number of meth lab seizures.
A centerpiece of the Oklahoma experiment has been restrictions on over-the-counter sale of cold medications, which contain pseudoephedrine, a substance that is separated from the legal drugs and recombined to create meth. State officials have credited this limit with an 80% drop in the number of meth lab seizures.
In part using the Oklahoma experience as rhetorical fuel, other states have gotten into the act, too, in what is becoming a meth law stampede. More than two dozen legislatures are considering changes to halt meth traffic, with the chief push being the restriction of access to pseudoephedrine.
