Exactly the sort of editorial that drives away the moderate gun owners and hunters.
Good point. It's easy for me to see through the crude language to the point being made simply because I so completely agree with it. But I guess if I were on the fence I might look at it as another example of a yahoo gun owner and choose to distance myself. Now that you've made me think a little, I think this sort of thing may help to add a few yahoos but drive away the kind of people that would make a bigger difference.
So why is it, when there are so many gun owners, that we are not the DOMINANT voting bloc in this country? Because most of that 75-80 million are stupid, lazy, hypocritical barfbags.
Unfortunately he's absolutely correct. Case in point, I have a brother that is an avid hunter and a firearms owner (obviously), but he pays absolutely no attention to politics whatsoever and HAS NEVER VOTED.
Even when the city was talking of annexing his property which would have driven his property taxes through the roof, I begged him to vote - i gave him all the information, who was opposed to the annexation and I even offered to pick him up and drive him to the town hall to vote.
He magically disappeared 15 minutes before the polls opened.
Exactly the sort of editorial that drives away the moderate gun owners and hunters.
Why because they can't face the truth? The language is harsh, but the message is clear and correct.
You don't influence someone by calling them an ******* and telling them how lazy they are. While I like the bluntness of the article, for a lot of folks it will have the opposite affect. If you want to influence people to your cause, you need to speak to their concerns and ideals in a rational, sensable and peaceful manner. Calling them names just isn't going to do it. It isn't rocket science.
you're probably right stuck,
however most of these people are probably immovable no matter how you approach them--I have some members of my extended family back east in WV that are avid hunters/fisherman yet they are yellow dog democrats---meaning they would vote for a yellow dog if he was on the ticket. Can't understand it. I can understand the ire of that article

Hillbilly, those are just examples of the thick headed people on the left - both sides have them and preaching to them won't do any good.
However, there are plenty of people out there who are moderate - according to some polls I've seen up to 50% of the country would vote for a candidate they like regardless of party affiliation. These are the kind of people the NRA should be preaching to - these are the people who make up the demographic they should be chasing. If you don't worry about the middle, you'll never accomplish anything.
