Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Who said this??

Saw this on another site and found it interesting.Do you know who the two people are that made these statements?

First guy: "The national government will maintain and defend the foundations on which the power of our nation rests. It will offer strong protection to Christianity as the very basis of our collective morality. Today Christians stand at the head of our country. We want to fill our culture again with the Christian spirit. We want to burn out all the recent immoral developments in literature, in the theatre, and in the press "” in short, we want to burn out the poison of immorality which has entered into our whole life and culture as a result of LIBERAL excess during the past years"

Second guy: "When a Religion is good, I conceive it will support itself; and when it does not support itself, and God does not take care to support it so that its Professors are obliged to call for help of the Civil Power, it is a sign, I apprehend, of its being a bad one."

The first also said

" "The personification of the devil as the symbol of all evil assumes the living shape of the Jew"

The first one could be Jeffersonm, then, given the second speaker.

My follow up question is, "why should I care?" The founding fathers weren't perfect, nor did every one of their wacky individual beliefs make it into our system of government. then again, some of their worst beliefs did, such as slavery.

Because those who do not learn from their own history are condemned to repeat it .

On this board, I have a difficult time recognizing when someone has posted a quote like this to say, "See, this is what we should be doing" or if they are saying the speaker was an early version of a right-wing nutjob. So I have to ask.
