Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default The French think that they're better than us , eh ?

French better ?

Yeah ,
the French living under socialism are so much better than us lowlife Americans and our decadent ways . At least we treat our kids better and accept responsibility when things occasionally go south . [:@]

I don't understand the point of the link or the thread, aside from an irrational fear and hatred of the French. Are you suggesting this sort of thing isn't going on here in America? And if you aren't suggesting we don't have the same problems here, what was your point?

The frogs are aghast that such a heinous thing could possibly happen there , and were quick to blame it on a lack of outside oversight . These are the same jerks who point and scoff when it happens here and proclaim themselves superior to us because of their alleged higher moral standards . They were particularly quick to s****** when the Catholic priest molesting scandal broke . Hmmm ... Who's one of the largest predominantly Catholic cultures on Earth ? I'll take "They've only seen the tip of the iceberg for $500 , Alex !"

For the record Biller , I don't hate those froggy little cheese eating surrender monkeys , I simply despise them and feel no respect for them . I've met plenty of French people , and with the sole exception of the Parisiens whom I abhor , the bulk of them were very nice . The wannabe froggies in Montreal were somewhat annoying , but heck , they don't even know what country they live in .

I don't particularly like the French, although I don't spend much time thinking about them and worrying that I should boycot French wine (anyway, Budweiser isn't a French wine, so I think I'm ok).

I am curious, though, where you get that the French have been collectively proclaiming higher moral standards and s******ing at the priest scandal.

Ah yes, because in the U.S. parents and adults never molest their kids. And when they do they always admit to it. And we never hear "I can't believe it happened in this town, or " I never thought it would happen here."

"Occasionally"??? Um, kevin1 you do live in the U.S...don't you?

Yes I do Stuck ,
and when you live with nearly 300 million people most of what we perceive as bad things can usually be classified as occasional . I never said "we don't do that" , my point was that the frogs do , and turn their noses up at us when it does happen here . But god forbid it could happen there ! []

Biller ,
that has been their general attitude toward us from as far back as I can remember . I was talking to a guy at work earlier today who had been to Paris , and you couldn't get him to go back there if you paid him . He said that the moment he opened his mouth and spoke it was like a wall went up , and the folks whom he was addressing always said "Oh , you're an American ..." and were immediately rude . They're apparently pissed off becase they aren't a world power anymore , or something .

My point was that while quick to point out our flaws and blame them on our way of life , they are dumbfounded that the same could happen under their so called" perfect society" . Hypocracy always generate some delicious irony for me , and I simply wanted to share . Sorry if you can't grasp it .

The French are just as nationalistic as the US. The word "chauvinism" was first used to describe a particularly heated & ferverent form of French nationalism.

About Parsiens being rude to Americans; yes they are, but the rude ones treat everybody with the same level of disdain. There are Parsiens who consider Paris to be the apex of cultural developement. All other places outside Paris differ only in their geography.

They (like many countries) scoff at phrases like "The US is the greatest [country, democracy] in the world." It a subjective judgement. "I'll never be convinced that France is better than the US, just as a proud Frenchman will never be convinced that the US is the superior country. It's pointless to try and argue.
