Legislation that would limit the number of pistols people can buy and set up a licensing system for gun dealers failed Tuesday in an Illinois Senate commitee. Gun dealers are already licensed by the Federal Government. The Senate Judiciary Committee also voted against requiring gun owners to report lost or stolen weapons, part of a broader bill to tighten laws on unlawful use of weapons.
Regional differences dominate gun control debates in Illinois, with downstate lawmakers from both parties tending to oppose gun control, while Chicago democrats and some Republicans support it. The bill to limit buyers to one handgun a month failed 4-5.
The NRA also said requiring dealers to report all sales for the last two years, would effectively create a state registry of all firearms.
The most prominent story was in a northwest burb, they got an old man and took away his shotgun and a pistol because he forgot to update his FOID.
I saw pictures of it, it was HILARIOUS. They had about twenty guys with fully auto weapons (looked like MP5-A's), full body armor etc. breaking into a guys house......
My son had to hand in his FOID card after he plead guilty to a misdemeanor.......he got a DUI. Just what pray tell does getting a DUI have to do with owning a firearm? His 2 year probation ends next month and he wants to use his(mine) shotgun in deer firearms season this fall. Bet it takes a while before they give it back to him.
