Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Yes, those wheels continue to turn.

2000 people? Let's see 200,000 people or maybe twice that. But near a city that has millions in it, 2000 people hardly registers. BUT, it's gotta start somewhere.

I'm not so sure about that. Like you said, it has to start somewhere. The thing is the Iraqis have already started. Some have been working with us to rebuild the country and the government since the beginning. Some decided to pitch in after the November election. A good number joined the mission after their own election in January. Now even more are coming on board to drive the whackos away.

My point is that while progress seems slow at times, it it continuous. With each day that goes by, the people trying to make democracy succeed are moving closer and closer together. Those who are skeptical are becoming more and more convinced that it is feasible and worth the effort.

I came across this article after reading the thread Latest Attack in Iraq. I've never underestimated the Iraqis, but sometimes they really surprise me with their courage and determination. My optimism grows hour by hour.

I think you're right. But I think positive stories like this in US papers has an impact on the state of mind of Americans. Even the lefties are now asking if maybe going into Iraq really was the right thing afterall.

I might've misunderstood your previous post. I thought you were downplaying the democratic movement in Iraq.

Those in the Left are either feeling a bit silly or still clutching the Communist Manifesto and chanting "DEATH TO BUSH!"

The democratic domino effect is spreading in the Middle East (despite hardly anyone on either side really believing it could happen like this), and the libbies have been frozen with their mouths open since the end of January. Win-win!

The thing to remember is that it has taken us over 200 years to get where we are today and we still are finding a few kinks in the system today. I wouldn't trade anything in the world for what we have as a system today, especially after having been to Iraq three times and a few other countries as well. With a little help, they'll get it right.
