Default New Public enemy number one!!!

A 13-year-old student in Orange County, Fla., was suspended for 10 days and could be banned from school over an alleged assault with a rubber band, according to a WKMG Local 6 News report.

Robert Gomez, a seventh-grader at Liberty Middle School, said he picked up a rubber band at school and slipped it on his wrist.

Gomez said when his science teacher demanded the rubber band, the student said he tossed it on her desk.

After the incident, Gomez received a 10-day suspension for threatening his teacher with what administrators say was a weapon, Local 6 News reported.

"They said if he would have aimed it a little more and he would have gotten it closer to her face he would have hit her in the eye," mother Jenette Rojas said.

Rojas said she was shocked to learn that her son was being punished for a Level 4 offense -- the highest Level at the school. Other violations that also receive level 4 punishment include arson, assault and battery, bomb threats and explosives, according to the Code of Student Conduct.

The district said a Level 4 offense includes the use of any object or instrument used to make a threat or inflict harm, including a rubber band.

Rojas plans to fight the ruling but her son still faces expulsion.

"It's ridiculous, it's a rubber band," Rojas said.

The school's principal could not comment because the case is still under investigation.

A district spokesman said there is still a series of meetings the district will have before Gomez is officially expelled.

The public education establishment is itself led by children. At least in mental capacity. When you mess up and make yourself look bad, deflect negative attention and blame toward a scapegoat.

Schools are increasingly failing to teach anything that useful in higher education or the workplace. Forgive my generalization, but kids can't read, they can't write, they can't do basic algebra, and they have no marketable interpersonal skills. Schools administrations been pushing liberal reforms for decades, yet the situation inside the schools keeps worsening across the board.

Some people just refuse to admit when they're wrong.

Good - the kid IMO should get 20-30 days! Expulsion sounds a little extreme unless the kid has a prior wrap sheet(I bet he does).

This will make you happy, the kids in Texas can not be pormoted past 3rd grade until they pass a reading and math proficency test. If they cant pass it, they stay in third grade until they can. Now there will be special ed kids passed on, but that is another story. As for general ed kids, no pass, no move on. Also, In highschool they have to pass all parts of the exit level Taks or they will not be allowed to graduate. The level of the Taks is pretty high. Not sure in other subjects, but the science portion is base on bio. physics and chem.

Im with you, I dont see a school getting themselves tied up with a mess like this unless there was more to the story than this. I bet the kid didnt lay the rubber band down, probably threw it at the teacher while making smart a$$ remarks and threats under their breath. I have been at this game long enought to understand that the kids do a lot more than what the parents want to admit.

I keep hearing the saying, what happened to the good old days. Well in the good old days kids were kicked out of school for simple disrespect and interuptions, as well as small things like dress code violations ect.. So if people gripe about this they cant be of the above mentioned mind set.

Let's see.....Gomez@Rojas looks like a racial thing to me.
If this is the limits of thinking in that school system, the teachers and administrators are thieves or they should not be getting paid.
Do you think they play dodge ball at that school? NOT
