While we shouldn't discount the obvious possibility of mental illness, I have to think that many do it for the media attention. With the speed at which news travels and the constant saturation of television in our lives today, anyone with a gun and a grudge can be an instant worldwide anti-hero.

Look at the background of a lot of these kinds of whackos. They have their various personal and emotional issues, but the one thing that sticks in my mind is the obsession with other mass/serial-murderers. Remember the shooter up in New York last week? He had a room full of "Columbine memorabilia". When people like that raise murderers to celebrity status, it's pretty clear that they probably have some aspirations of their own.

Doesn't surprise me in the least. Those shipyards are an absolute joke. While doing military work I found out that electric boat was hiring illegals to work on classified submarine technology in the yards.

terrorism is such a funny topic. If we're soooooo affraid of the evil muslims and everyone else out there that is going to hurt us, you would think that we wouldn't give just anyone access to classified information.
