Default Archery Sports Under Attack

We all know that peta is putting a fund togeather to target bowhunting, and the outdoor world is coming togeather nicely to try and counter it.
But our way of life is also under attack from within the outdoor world.
The ancient activity of bowfishing has recently been attacked in the papers, magizines, and in the city consul of austin Texas. We would all think, "whats peta up to here?"
We wouldnt think an organized attack plan designed to outlaw bowfishing was coming from another outdoor group.....would we??
The carp angling groups CAG[carp anglers group] and ACS[american carp society, are the parties engaging in this anti hunting activity.
Members and officials of these groups approached the Austin Texas city consul with a proposal to outlaw bowfishing on Town lake, a lake they covet for the large carp there. The biologists said there was no reason for it, stating they were a invasive destructive fish, and even that being said, said that the anglers and fish co-existed for years, and the fish flourished. This did not sit well with these groups, so they used the promise of money to try and sway the city consul.
If they outlawed bowfishing, they would guarantee thousands in tourist dollars from carp anglers from Europe. Selling american sportsmens rights!! The texas bowfishing association and the bowfishing association of america fought this for months, and finally, the laws stayed the same.
It dont end there. The V.P. of CAG had a anti bowfishing article published in IN-Fisherman slamming bowfishing. Saying how unsporting it is, how it was such a waste, using language that would make any peta member proud.......and speaking of peta, in their forums they even suggested teaming up with peta to outlaw bowfishing. They have threads discussing ways to end bowfishing. Can you believe an outdoor group sugesting this???!! Or, badmouthing another group in a major mag.??
Dont end there....last week they had a article in the wallstreet journal about a 1 million dollar carp contest, promoting their sport which is fine.........but once again, they have to attack bowfishing, saying that we kill hundreds of pounds of fish and leave them to rot on the shore.
These are carp...........the fish state dnrs spend millions thinning, poisoning whole lakes to get rid of, the fish that cause so much sedimentation due to their feeding in waters that true game fish cant see their food.
You may not bowfish, as I dont hunt bear or Mt. Lion, but we all need to support each others sports from ALL the anti groups. We the bowfishermen pledge to support all hunting groups, and are asking the same. There are 70,000 users here, we can make a dent in the anti activities.........remember, these groups are anti, and should be shunned by true outdoorsmen.

I posted this as an informative post, and to ask hunters support.......it seems that we have to argue with our own, something I wont continue with. Theres some good info in the thread concerning the anti activity, and the destructive nature of the carp. I only hope some sportsmen concerned with the wellbeing of our hunting sports see it and support us.

Well, I gotta admit, when i think of bowfishing i think of a lot of fish being shot and let rot on the banks and thrown away.

Thats just my first thoughts, sorry. I mean, most people don't eat carp and gar and talk about a lot of misses and wounded fish !!

I've seen alot of problems between these orgs and bowfisherman. Both groups honestly have good points to their arguments.

That line really turns me off.

What do you do with the carp you kill?

Do alot of Bowfisherman just throw their kill on the bank.

I personally do eat smoked carp and gar are very tasty.
I am involved in starting and running a state bowfishing club, where we push for ethical harvest of fish. I have never seen piles of fish rotting, I have seen trash from bank anglers many times.........should we start a ban on bank fishing?
Lots of carp are used for fertilizer.....the state of Wis. has a 25 cent bounty on them. They waive ramp fees for bowfishermen to encourage it. The piles of carp seen in pics and in dumpsters are there with the DNRs blessing and encouragement. Native fish should be harvested and utilized like any other game.

Just curious Charlie P, but what do you think the good point is that CAG has?

That bowfishers are somehow bad because we kill tons of non-native, destructive, invasive fish?

.......Bowfishing = cleaning up our waterways, one carp at a time......

I bowfish and have never just left the fish. Carp in many lakes in my vicinity are overrun by them and need thinned out. I either use the fish for fertilizer in our gardens or filet them up for use as cut bait for catfish. Nothing wasted. I would however, have a problem if I saw a pile of rotting fish along a shoreline.

Okay ............. coyotes are varmits, they hurt the deer/small game populations and since trapping is so shunned, its neccessary to kill them. Also, they are a fur bearing animal, their pelts are (use to be) valuable.

A carp ....... do you see bass fisherman coming together to reduce the carp populations ? What is a carp other than a bottom feeding, dung eating, cleaning up the waters roughfish that has the nastiest red meat in the world ?

My Dad use to live on suckers. Canned and then patty fried, really a delicious meal. But c'mon, who are we kidding here ? Bowfishing is killing the fish for fun and tossing the dead fish onto the banks for the coons at night and buzzards in the daytime.

Datamax, a lot of people think the same thing about deer hunting. Just look at the threads here on this site. All those missed and wounded deer.

Along that line of reasoning... since there are sooo many more deer hunters than bowfishers then there must be piles and piles of dead deer rotting out in the woods. What a waste. How cruel. Better support a ban on deer hunting.

The main problem with all this is OUR way of outdoor life is being attacked. Is there any outdoor activity that dosent have slob participants?
I have no problems shunning groups that participate in anti activity, anti fur people in europe and america, anti bear hunting groups in ontario, main and california, anti Mt. Lion hunting groups out west....an anti is an anti, they are true outdoorsmens enemy, along with ourselves if we are not united.
