Treasure Chest

Somehow I came across some anti-communist comic books Hoover had published in 1961. While the style is obviously biased (not necessarily a bad thing) and somewhat laughable, it rings pretty true.

What do our HNI's resident liberals think?

i think that anything endorsed by J. Edgar Hoover is suspect....but i'm going to read it anyway, for laughs.

Don't get me wrong--Hoover was a nut! But the fact that he had a habit of violating human rights doesn't let the Soviets off the hook. Even if you were to take offense to (what I feel) is brutal honesty about communism, I'm sure you can still see the humor in this presentation.

I wonder if I can find the originals on eBay? [8D]

i'm only partially through it, and it's ok.

overly simplistic, and a little irresponsible with the facts...but such were the times when this was written...

overall, quite amusing.

We still have Red China to deal with. Times may have changed here, but communism remains a serious threat to democracy. No communist state ever rejected the political principle of global domination.

communism as a global movement is dead.

the collapse of the soviet union was the end of it, and the opening of china's markets is the first step towards a change in that country.

You are dead wrong. Commumism will only cease to exist as a global movement when the entire political system itself dies. I have yet to learn of a communist dictator who has no interest in expanding his control.

The collapse of the USSR was due to the destruction or their economy, not the death of their ideology. There are plenty of people still out there who dream of a global red government.

China is making market reforms because they have to, not because they want to (much like Lenin did in the few years after the 1917 Revolution). Despite the new "friendly" face the party puts on in front of the cameras (when they're even alowed around), they want one thing and one thing only--economic and military domination of Asia specifically, and the world in general.
