Often, the path to totalitarianism is gradual, gentle sloping with no signposts, markers or fanfare - and always in the name of a "Safer Society."
Ask any one that has lived under the thumb of a dictator how easy it is to get freedoms back after you let them go. Usually involves alot of dead bodies.

my favorite argument is the "if you've done nothing wrong, you have nothing to worry about" defense....
you don't have to commit a crime to have your civil rights infringed upon.
the mere act of making the patriot act law was an infringement on the civil rights of every citizen of this country, whether they are willing participants or not.
My blood pressure spikes when I hear that "If you've done nothing wrong you have nothing to worry about" crap - which is nothing more than a watered down version of "Nazi-Speak" - pure and simple.
Last year a video clip was posted on this and a few other sites of Police stopping a motorist. He/She(can't remeber which) was giving them all types of grief about why she was stopped and their rights. One of the Policeman pulled some papers out of her car and asked the other cop" isn't it illegal to have this?" It was a copy of the Bill of Rights/Constitution,anyone else remember this.

The officer arrested the driver, if I remember correctly.
