I don't believe him. You don't leave what you love; you work to make it better.
I guess this kind of logic goes along the same lines as those who divorce their partner because "he/she is turning into a person very different from the one I grew up loving". God forbid that you actually have to work towards happiness when the times are tough.
Oh, well, life goes on. I'm sure the INS has plenty of foreigners willing to stand in line to take their places.
