Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Do you pay into Soc. Security??

I know a lot of public/ gov't jobs aren't required to pay in. As an Ohio teacher, I don't pay in. My pension plan supercedes it.

For me, I think that's a good thing. Some of my coworkers are getting shafted though. I work in a Vocational/technical school, so half our teachers have already put years into private industry already -- carpenters, mechancs, and so on -- but since they now qualify for the teachers' pension plan, they no longer qualify to receive S.S. So, for them, there are years of payments of their money that they will never get back.

YOu know what is funny about this. Every year around your birthday the SS admin. sends you a letter talking about how much you can get (back) from the goobermint in SS upon retirement.

The amount they show per month is about the amount I pay in right now every month.

So you pay in for say 48 or so years, and you won't even break even unless you live to be over 100.

For a number of years I was able to avoid it. For the last ten years, yes I pay and pay. I now I won't see a dime.

As an LEO I did not pay into it.
When I worked prior to that and when I had my own business part time I paid into both my pension plan and SS.
I now do some limited work for a private company attached to the EPA. I pay into SS through them. That also allows me to max out on my Roth IRA each year by working a few weeks a year.

Two things. I have more than enough money saved and invested that I will never need SS event though I have my quaters or points. Also, I have an excellent pension with one of the best if not the best rating in the USA.
