Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Want to learn about social security?

There are a lot of members posting their opinions on the current SS issue as a result of the State of the Union Address. Some favoring Bush, others not.
Bush is not the first to recognize it as a problem. Back, I am not sure of the date President Clinton called it a crisis. Funny, the dem cackled at President Bush the other night for saying the same thing. That should be a little poke in the ribs for those who are listening to all the pro's and con's of Bush"™ proposal.
For anyone who is willing to do their homework there is sufficient information on the Internet to gain a basic understanding rather than just some other layperson opinions.

I have used this site in the past and found this new subsection the other day. This organization claims to be nonpartisan but each of us will form our own opinion regarding that matter.
It is a good place to educate yourself: http://www.nasi.org/publications3901/publications.htm

Their home page is: http://www.nasi.org/

Now, anyone else have a good link?

Thanks for the correction eto.

You've got a date problem there, but your point is still made.

I believe it was in his '98 or '99 State of the Union Address. Also, he proposed PRIVATIZING a portion of it, just as Bush is now. The dems literally applauded when Clinton proposed it, but here 6 years later and even more of a crisis, the dems claim there is no crisis. This is proof positive that the dems are not principle-based. They are simply for whatever Bush is against, and against whatever Bush is for, even if they were for it to the point of applauding when their own guy proposed it when the issue was even less of a crisis!

There certainly is a crisis.....well, sort of. According to the Social Security Administration, (whose 7 trustees include 3 Bush cabinet menbers), Social Security will remain solvent until 2042. That seems like a little time to adequately assess the situation. It is unfortunate that the President chooses to lie about the health of the system. I wonder why did Bush waited until now to address this "problem"? Why not in his first term? Here it is....the beginning of his second term...and he is going all over talking about the "crisis" in funding. Was he afraid of an election defeat if he faced this "crisis" during his first term. The truth is: Bush is more worried about his legacy than about the truth. It just doesn't matter if they are Republicans or Democrats...it is politics...as usual. The moralists elected Bush...myself included. It will be interesting to see just how moral he proves to be. Moral people speak the truth.
