The strongest reason for the people to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to protect themselves against tyranny in government." - Thomas Jefferson
Even though Reid is a Democrat, I am glad that he is one of my senators! Him and John Ensign (R) both are very strong supporters of gun rights, and understand many issues regarding gun control, and the fight for it.

CB, just because they have a D beside their name doesn't always mean they are flaming liberals. Some of the old time Texas D's are more conservative than most R's. They just get drowned out by the swarm of liberal D's hitting the airwaves.

Every time I think the liberal Dummycraps are coming around they turn right back and do something stupid to shoot themselves in the foot . Just watch , it's coming . They're far from done on gun grabbing .

I have to give a thumbs up to Dean for "sticking to his guns" on the issue. When I read up on his record early last year (leading up to the Iowa Caucus), I felt somewhat relieved that a pro-gun (or maybe anti-anti) candidate was doing so well. Of course he blew his chance at the nomination with that outburst. Hhe got a bad deal on that one, but I have to admit it made my laugh and shake my head at the man.
Too bad his out there on a lot of other issues. Well, maybe not too bad--he'll probably do his part to help alienate America from the Left even more in the next four years. I would like to see a moderate Democrat, but I don't know how long it'll take for the party to learn its lesson.
Quote:
Robert Spitzer, political science professor at State University of New York-Cortland said, "The gun issue has historically been a cyclical issue, and we"re in a cycle right now where there is less interest in gun control for a variety of reasons. The Democrats feel they were burned in 2000 on the gun issue. And enough Democrats believe it to be so that the Democratic Party doesn"t have the same zeal for the issue that it did earlier."
Spitzer added that gun control would eventually get more attention again, saying, "I don"t mean a few months; I mean a few years. But the issue will return."
