A Texas woman has been indicted for criminally negligent homicide for causing her husband's death by giving him a sherry enema, a police detective said on Wednesday.

Tammy Jean Warner, 42, gave Michael Warner two large bottles of sherry on May 21, which raised his blood alcohol level to 0.47 percent, or nearly six times the level considered legally drunk in Texas, police detective Robert Turner in Lake Jackson, Texas, told the Houston Chronicle.

"We're not talking about little bottles here," Turner said. "These were at least 1.5-liter bottles."

Warner, 58, was said to have an alcohol problem and received the wine enema because a throat ailment left him unable to drink the sherry, Turner told the newspaper.

"I heard of this kind of thing in mortuary school in 1970, but this is the first time I've ever heard of someone actually doing it," said Turner, who led the lengthy investigation in the case.

The woman admitted administering the enema, but denied causing her husband's death, the Chronicle said.

A dispatcher for the Lake Jackson police said only Turner could discuss the case, but he did not return phone calls from Reuters.

Along with negligent homicide, Mrs. Warner was indicted for burning her husband's will a month before his death. Both charges carry maximum penalties of two years in prison.

Mrs. Warner surrendered to police on Monday and was released on $30,000 bail, the newspaper said.

You have to pity people with alcohol or drug problems.

What do you mean by pity? Do you mean feel sorry for them because they can't help it because they have a "disease"?

I've said this before, IMO it's not a disease, it's a choice and the sign of a weak mind. My MOL and BOL are both drug addicts and I have no pity for them whatsoever. They both had great lives and they both pi$$ed it all away for drugs. We tried to help my MOL by letting her live with us for a while, but they day I found her passed out in the floor of my 10 year old daughters room, (actually my daughter fond her first and freaked out because she thought she was dead) with her pills scattered all over the bed and floor, that was it. We said she had 2 choices, go to rehab or get the h$ll out. She chose to go to rehab.

She no longer lives with us (by her own choice) but chooses rather to live in whatever shelter will take her in for the night. So no, I have no pity whatsoever. As far as I know, she still has a drug problem. The sad part is there are quack doctors who will continue to prescribe the stuff even though they know they are an addict.

Alcoholism affords great ability and propensities toward denial. The alcoholic sometimes go years and years quietly abusing and people put up with it. They can become experts at hiding it from others. Sometimes their co-workers go out of their way to help them hide the problem.

Drug abuse is also accompanied by denial at times.

I truly pity those involved in it. You can point fingers if you wish and I will understand it if you do. It is something that is hard to be around, it is hard to tolerate, the abusers are often irritable, antagonistic, and oblivious to their actions and the consequences.

It's more common than you might think Butch ,
when I read it my first thought was "Didn't she have enough sense to water it down 50-50 like everybody else ?" That would be a huge amount of wine to drink that quickly . You go from zero to blind drunk in 30 seconds .

The rectum is rich with blood vessels , some of which go nearly straight to the brain . That's why the enema comes into the picture , it can be done orally , but who wants to be the pump ?[:'(]

BTW , don't ask why I know this ... [:-]
