Flu getting around
Despite the vaccine shortage this fall, the Wolves did get flu shots in training camp. Latrell Sprewell and Kevin Garnett were feeling better last night, Wittman said, though Troy Hudson still was ailing.
Wolves head coach Flip Saunders has failed to finish six games in his 10-year NBA career, but the first five were due to ejections. This one -- with Saunders stuck at home because of the flu -- marked the first time he neither started nor finished.
My nephew works with the ambulance crew and he received a shot and was hit hard for 5 days.
I substituted for a teacher that was out for a week because his family could not get rid of it. I do not know if they received the shot.
I have been searching for a half hour this morning withoout much success.
The most common reason for failure is the use of the wrong strain. Flu virii can change fairly quickly, so it's important to isolate the strain that's currently spreading.
A joke? Considering that I almost died of the flu two Decembers ago, I take it pretty seriously. Haven't been sick yet this season, although Mrs. Six is laid out at home with with it as we speak.
I suppose it's important to note that I received the vaccine this year, while she's hasn't.
Well I have only had the flu one time in 51 years and that was when I got a flu shot!!! Now do not get me wrong, I am sure they prevent the flu for some people. You have to remember that the flu vaccines are different every year and are geared towards the most prevelant strain of flu predicted for that year, the problem is there are a number of different strains around every year so that may be what they got.

I get the flu shot when it is convenient -- like when it is available in my office building as it was last year and this year -- otherwise I don't get it. I don't know that it has prevented me getting the flu. Like others, it puzzles me how people can get the flu even though they got the shot. I know, I know, different flu strains that can't be vaccinated against. I guess I have not seen any mathematical argument as to the effectiveness of the flu vaccine. How many people who would otherwise have contracted the flu, do not experience symptoms because of having been vaccinated? How many people experience reduced symptoms and how much reduced because of having been vaccinated?
Without this story I'm not inclined to go out of my way to get flu shots. The cost is pretty cheap, but I'm not going to take time off from work and take my kids out of school to get them vaccinated, in the absence of some pretty definite information.
Aught Six it is hit and miss at best. You would think the flu shot being touted as a vaccine would be just that, a vaccine however its little more than a shot in the dark at helping your immune system against the flu bug. I have no faith in drugs though and that fuels my dislike for the flu shots. I thought it was a silly silly part of out presidential elections too because of how little the flu shots do for many who get them.
That's the difference between you and me. Modern medicines keep me alive and healthy. Had I lived 100 years ago, I would've been buried a few days after my 14th birthday.
I also have a great doctor who listens to my comments, suggestions, and questions. Medicine is my friend.
I can easily see why the young and elderly get it but do the middle aged really need it. I have no intention of getting a flu shot. I am 38 and only missed one day of work because of the flu. The one thing that hits me yearly is a scratchy throat two times a year.
