Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default 7 drug companies threaten to quit selling to

pharmacies in Canada if they let Americans import their drugs back at the cheaper rates.[:@]

There is no way any drug company is selling their products to Canada without making some sort of profit. So in effect, and mind you this is my simplistic mind working here, American drug companies are saying to Americans you WILL pay higher rates and you WILL NOT be allowed to buy the same drugs cheaper by importing them back from Canada.

I knew they were behind this all along. The free market is not always free.

Their profit comes in the form of raising prices in the U.S. That is a proven fact.

Drug subsidies in the U.S. are NOT the answer, the answer is to make all countries pay their fair share of the cost of R&D and insurance. Canuks and mexicans have been riding the gravy boat for decades on the backs of U.S. citizens.

Labor costs go up == ship the jobs to china.

Labor market gets tight, lower wages.

Industry has a win win

Well, I am waiting to hear a few posters rant about the cost of R&D. The truth is, drug companies are among the highest profiteers of companies worldwide. Nothing wrong with that.....but don't expect me to feel sorry for them.

No, there IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THAT. It's called a Monopoly. Pharma companies costs are quite high, and the R&D is very expensive, but when you start playing the price gouging game you have proven (at least to me) that you're unethical and a massive profiteer - just like insurance companies.

. But not nearly so expensive that they don't rake in huge profits! Some R&D is also partially paid for by government grants.

Amen. Other countries have been letting us pay the bills for too long.

Just another voice here-I have worked in drug plants in the Caribbean-you know those places that are required to be as sanitary as in the US (bull hockey). During one week-on Monday the pills that came down the line all went into US labeled packages-the next day they all went into Mexican packages and the following two days they all went into packages heading to Canada. Now I didn't see one bit of difference in the material going into the wrappers. They are shucking us with all the jargon about quality and the like.
