Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Iran and astonishment

Yesterday, Iran put the US on notice that if we tried anything foolish that the Guard was ready and they would 'astonish' us with their response. Shortly after that they announced that from this point forward every teenage would have explosives permanently taped to their abdomen with rc switches controlled by the ayattolah and that all women would be issued pocket knives. In addition, they are issuing one bullet to each of their freedom fighters. I fully expected that rice would be replaced with beans in the daily diet so as to great 'gas warfare' on demand.

Iran already has it made politically in Iraq. The front running Iraqi candidate is an Islamic Cleric who has the full support of hardline clerics in Iran. He will likely be elected as such and we will have 2 Irans instead of one.

Effectively, we will be replacing a secular dictator (Saddam) with an Islamic Theocray similar to Iran and Afghanistan's former Taliban. ---- All via the elections we ourselves have orchestrated.

In the end,,, the joke may well be on us.
We will see. The difference is that there will be a variety of people writing a Constitution.

But Iran is having a hard enough time politically at home. The theocracy there is not a healthy one. When/if they are sandwiched between to Democracies, their own problems will increase.

Bingo! A war with Iran will be difficult, no doubt about it. But I'm confident we'll win. The ayatollahs' power is not absolute, whether they pretend it is or not.

if their government is unstable, what is the problem with merely letting things run their course?

I guess it depends upon how concerned we should be that they are attempting to build nuclear weapons.

Seems to me that there would be a way that we could help the younger Iranians who want a different type of government develop their movement. I'd be surprised if we weren't already trying that route.

The Iranians have more to fear from Israel than the US right now though. No way Israel will allow the construction of those weapons.

We did win in Iraq. Saddam is out of the picture and the people themselves are organizing their own government.

And in case you missed your Middle Eastern geography lesson, we have troops on two borders with Iran.
