Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Arizona's On A Roll

Ariz. Requires Citizenship Proof to Vote

Quote:
The law went into effect Tuesday after being approved by voters in November. It requires that people provide proof of citizenship, such as a birth certificate, when registering to vote and show specified forms of identification when casting a ballot at a polling place.
Right on! Can't understand how anyone would argue against preventing non-citizens from interfering with our politics.

Quote:
A civil-rights group and Democratic legislators recently had urged the Department of Justice (news - web sites) to reject the law. They argued the changes will erect barriers that will hinder minorities' participation in elections and hamper grassroots voter registration drives.
Uh, am I missing something here? Far as I know, everyone born here gets a birth certificate, regardless of what gender, color, or ethnicity you are.

Ah, well. The libs have to make a fuss about something in every issue. Otherwise they'd be out of a job.

The only minorities it would hinder are illegal minorities -- and that is what the law was designed for -- duh?!?!

That all passed on referendum during the last election cycle.

The feds can't "legally" touch it, they're totally within their constitutional rights.

And it's about damn time.

Arizona Democrats who oppse this law have truly lost it.
Exactly, they lose more and more each election day!

I can honestly say all the people I know here in NC (D&R) would favor this law. We just passed a bi-partisan bill last year requiring immigration background checks when applying for a drivers license.
Good! A couple years ago Virginia began requiring "proof of legal presence" for everyone applying for DMV document. I figure it puts the burden on the applicant (whereas I'd imagine background checks fall under your DMV's responsibility as far as time and money) to prove he/she is here legally, which works well enough for me.

I live in the great state of Arizona and helped put this sucker in as a referendum item-it failed to make it 5 times when introduced as a bill in our wonderful and politically correct legislative branch. Now it sticks-just wait we are moving towards deportation of illegals as the next step-got to do something or we will all be speaking spanish in 10 years.

That statement was meant with a hint of sarcasm. When I say Mexicans, I am talking about true Mexicans with citizenship in Mexico, not hispanics.
