Default Heeeeeeres JOHNNY !

Too bad. He hosted the best show on television that was ever created....

Former 'Tonight Show' host Johnny Carson dead at 79: NBC

LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Johnny Carson, the long-time host of NBC television's "Tonight Show," has died at the age of 79, NBC reported.

Carson, a pioneer of late night television comedy and the talk show format in the United States, stepped down as host of the "Tonight Show" in 1992, when he was replaced by the current host Jay Leno.

The Nebraska-born Carson had hosted the "Tonight Show" since 1962. He interviewed scores of celebrities during his years on the ground-breaking broadcast.

Beatles John Lennon and Paul McCartney appeared on the show in 1968. Carson's final guests were singer Bette Midler and comedian Robin Williams. His last show was seen by an audience of 50 million across the United States according to NBC.

Carson was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame

May he rest in peace, I haven't watched the tonight show since he retired. Funny, I was just thinking about him a couple of days ago. I used to watch him in the evening waiting for my father to come home, Dad worked evenings and would get home in time to watch most of the show with Mom and whoever happened to be up at that time, talk about a good way to end a day!

He was so much better than any of the current hosts and that includes Jay Leno. May God bless him and let him rest in peace in heaven.

I'll second that. I liked "The Great Karzi (sp?)" routine he did.

He lived a long and rewarding life. I can recall Steve Allen from the original Tonight Show and then later came Johnny. The man had his own style, was funny and had a lot of class.
I understand he was still writing jokes for Leno up to the end.
Entertainer such as him are in short supply and he will be missed.

I can honestly say that the evenings have not been the same since Carson retired and now the world will never again laugh like they did at this man. I can remember me and my little brother sneaking down the stairs late at night and peeking over the banister to watch Carson while my mom was up watching him, the hardest part was not laughing out loud and getting caught!
