A car belonging to a convicted child molester who allegedly left Florida with an 11-year-old boy was found in Bartow County, a Georgia Bureau of Investigation spokesman said Friday.
Frederick Fretz (search), 42, picked up 11-year-old Adam Kirkirt (search) at Dunnellon Elementary School in Ocala, Fla., Tuesday, police said. GBI spokesman John Bankhead said Fretz's car was found near I-75. Bankhead said the FBI was leading the investigation.
Fretez was living with the boy and his father, Ivan Kirkirt. Fretz never told Kirkirt or local officials that he was a convicted child molester.
Wal-Mart stores around the nation also planned to hand out fliers of Adam.
On Wednesday morning, authorities issued an Amber Alert to notify the public and other law enforcement agencies once they learned that Fretz had been convicted in 1991 on three charges for sexually assaulting an 11-year-boy in Pennsylvania.
He registered as a sex offender when he moved to Arizona in the mid-1990s, but never registered as a sex offender when he later moved to Florida, a felony that could have kept him in jail longer when he was arrested last September.
