Will we ever have another state?

I was wondering if you think we will ever add another state to our union? It used to be they were added because of "Manifest Destiny" or that they had some serrious intrinsic value as land or minerals, but what about know? Why would we add more? Maybe to increase the workforce and thus offset some of the SS problems, or is their some land that is strategically beneficial to us. Also, with the particianship that we have now- would we risk offsetting the balance by introducing a whole new electorate?

I would like to add Chicago as its own separate state! It seems that one large city has a big influence and would like to make the whole state of Illinois follow every direction it takes. [:'(]

Two prime candidates might be Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, as U.S. Territories they cost us more than they are worth. Make them states or cut them loose because as it stands they are like black holes sucking energy. Guam and several other Pacific Island territories and protectorates are less likely candidates due to their distance, but they are all less of a burden to administer and more self sufficient.

Well Texas I know can without consent of congress split into 2 states, you would have to ask a Texan how this would work, but I know some how when they gained statehood there was some agreement in between the US and Texas that allowed that if Texas chose to split.

I would love to see No. Va. become a seperate state from the rest of Va., they are getting way to liberal up there for my liking!

Make NY city a seperate state.That part of NY is draining the rest of the state.It supposedly has all the money,but is also has most of the poor too.I wish this would happen,but it never will.
