Default $5 a day or $25 per year...

Thats the fee being proposed to use Ohio's State Parks. There will be a hearing and then the fee will simply be imposed.

I already paid for the parks. Now I have to pay again to park my car upon entry?

BS

Here's the letter I received after submitting a letter expressing my umbrage:

Mr. vc1111

Thank you for your comments regarding the proposed Parks Pride Pass.
Ohio State Parks understands the challenges and concerns with
instituting a parking pass, unfortunately this is our best option as we
look to maintain and restore the level of customer service that Ohioans
have come to expect in their state parks. Many details of this proposed
program can be found on www.ohiostateparks.org . We will include your
comments as part of the official record of the public hearing. Comments
such as yours will be considered as decisions are made regarding this
program. We appreciate your interest in the Ohio State Parks system.

Thank you,

Judi Love

Hmm.... That's about the going rate here for us Michiganders. Thought it was just part of life just as illegal driver's licenses, hunting licenses, tags for your car, property tax, etc...

More regulation and control. More money to the system. Yep. Workin' for the man!

VC I am guessing it will be that way all over sooner or later. You are correct, it is BS, we already pay for it and tons more that we are over charged for. The tax man is like a weak willed fat person running a candy store.

Thanks

They passed something like that on local lakes I use to fish. They put up a station where you used an envelope to pay $2.00 to park. I always took 200 pennies with me, filled the envelope out with my drivers license and license plates and of course, the slot was not big enough to accept such a stuffed envelope of coins. So I placed it on top of the pay station.

At the end of every stay, I would stop back at the pay station and take my envelope if no officials came during my stay. It worked quite well and was my way of getting back at the system. I haven't fished in years but I suspect the same strategy would work today as well.

Boy 2 dollars will break you now Datamax. So basically you stole from the state. We have to pay $7 to go to the state park near us and there is no slot,it is collected at the gate by a collector.

I had an argument with Parks before- and they told me that initially my taxes paid to purchase the land and that the upkeep should only be paid by people who use it...That sets a very interesting precident- only pay for what you use- no kids in school- no school taxes, not on welfare- no welfare taxes, the list could go on and on...

Interesting concept doc.

Actually I was hoping Illinois would adopt some sort of small entry fee to our state parks. Honestly, go to my native Indiana and the state parks are better maintained. I am not sure but I think Kentucky also charges a small fee and it has beautiful state parks.

New York has had that system for years as have many other states. The feds started it during the Reagan years at many of their properties and that continues today with some monor exceptions. I don't like the idea at all and it goes against the grain that we should pay for something already paid for by taxpayer dollars and supported from tax dollars as well. dochendrix brings up an interesting point about other taxpayer funded entities that are paid for by non users as well.
One of my biggest gripes is and has been for years the closing of parks, beaches and other recreation areas at darkness or 10:00 PM or other times with the excuse of controlling vandalism. There are officers available and present to write tickets to anybody wishing to use the facility yet they can't control vandalism? Just another means of raising money like speeding tickets and parking violations. Scream louder VC, get some peoples attention and fight this, because if you don't, once implemented it will never go away.

I appreciate your input guys.

Coastie, I wrote to them twice. It appears as though its a done deal from what I've read elsewhere.

I wish I could go to Columbus for the hearing. I think that they count on people like me, too busy to drive there to put up an appropriate fuss.

Gubmint just keeps getting bigger and bigger.
