In Tennessee, there is no minimum age, but under 10 cannot, under any circumstances, hunt without an adult in position to take immediate control of the weapon. Hunter education is mandatory for all hunters but cannot be taken until age 10. Once a hunter reaches age 10, he or she can hunt unsupervised.

In the 2004-2005 reg booklet hunters under the age of 15 may hunt or trap without a license keywords: when accompanied by a licensed adult.
For the States special youth hunts the regs are:
n a special meeting of the Natural Resources Commission on August 18, 2004 , the commissioners unanimously voted to lower the age limit for youths participating in the Special Youth Split Deer Season to age eight, according to West Virginia Division of Natural Resources' Director, Ed Hamrick. This action was precipitated by an earlier announcement by DNR that hunters, eight and nine years of age, can now obtain a temporary youth hunter education card after completing an abbreviated Hunter Education Course.
"This presents an excellent opportunity for our young people to participate in these special deer hunts at an earlier age," said Hamrick. "One of the best ways to recruit youngsters to hunting is to expose them to the excitement, challenges and rewards of deer hunting. West Virginia has a tremendous hunting heritage and if this heritage is to be safeguarded and continued, it is very important that they become involved."
With this change in the minimum age limit, the Special Split Youth Deer Season is now open to hunters who are ages 8 through 14. This year's split season is scheduled for November 6 and December 27-28, 2004 on private land in counties or parts thereof open to antlerless (Class N) deer hunting and on 28 specified Wildlife Management Areas. Once again key words: Participants must be accompanied by a licensed adult, age 21 or older, who cannot carry a gun or a bow and must remain close enough to render advice and assistance. In addition they must have a license to: Hunt antlerless deer, Hunt additional deer, and to hunt boar.
WV also has youth Turkey hunts and non residents that are underage have to have special licenses... Makes perfect sense to me.....And yes WV requires Hunters Education courses if born after 1975.
In North Carolina someone under age 16 can hunt without a license if he/she is hunting with a licensed adult. And someone under 16 who has in his/her possession the license of a parent or guardian can hunt without an adult or guardian. I looked at the regs and can't find an age limit.
I guess that way the state is leaving it up to the parents to determine if a kid is old enough to turn him loose in the woods with a gun. There are some pretty rural areas here where kids probably start hunting very early.
Since 1991, NC does require hunting education. But if you had a license before then, you don't need the hunters education to renew.
There's no age requirement in Virginia, but any minor under 12 must be under the direct supervision of a licensed adult at all times during a hunt. Those 12 or older are required to take Hunter Ed and obtain a license, regardless of whether they hunt with an adult or not.
With the 2004 Legislature almost adjourned, the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks (KDWP) has provided a summary of legislation that impacts outdoor recreation in Kansas. Although for most Kansans, happenings in Topeka may feel far removed from the recreational opportunities they enjoy, the actions of elected officials have the ability to impact every facet of KDWP activities and the constituents they serve.
Hunter Education - In an attempt to recruit youth to hunting, beginning Jan. 1, 2005, the minimum age for taking hunter education will be 11 years of age. Persons younger than 12 will not need to have hunter education in order to hunt but must be supervised by a person 18 or older while hunting. Persons between the ages of 12 and 15 must have hunter education to hunt unaccompanied, but they may hunt without hunter education if supervised by a person 18 or older.
In addition, there will be no minimum age to apply for and receive a big game permit, but persons younger than 14 must have bowhunter education to hunt big game with archery equipment.
A nonresident hunter education course has been authorized that is a combination online and hands-on course. The certification will only be valid in Kansas and only through the following January 31. Nonresidents must pay a fee to attend this course.
The minimum limit without an adult present is 16. That's understandable, you're able to drive at that age. After 16 you can't hunt unless you have a Hunter's Education Card.
So you need to get it before 16, but are not REQUIRED to have it.
After 16, everyone who hunts the state must have completed the Hunter's Ed course. I got my when I was 12 I think.

In GA there is no minimum age to hunt with direct supervision, adult within sight and hearing distance. Age 16 for a license and must have completed hunter safety course. Recommended age for hunter safety course is no younger than 12. Hunting on private property owned by a blood relative living in the same household requires no license but I'm not sure about supervision under that circumstance.
