Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default It's been nearly 24 hours . . .

Bush hesitated for 12 hours before committing funds to tsunami victims and the international community went nuts.

It's been nearly 24 hours since the mudslides in California. Ten people are dead, dozens more injured. These people lost anything. Where's the press conference from the White House announcing relief funds for these people. Better still, where's the UN press conference announcing relief efforts.

The White House will help. I'll not hold my breath on the UN.

There are between 6 and 8 billion dollars donated to such a poor nation but the US turns it's back on it's own citizens.

These days, it is expected that we value the lives of people in foreign countries more than those here, just as it is expected that we fight wars where we have no interest rather than those that we do. Unfortunate...

I agree ,
charity begins at home .

I do have one question though , if you live in an area prone to mudslides should folks feel sorry for you for being stupid enough to build there ? Building a house at the bottom of a hill knowing that it's just a matter of time before mud washes it away doesn't exactly ring the bell on my sympathy meter , and 10 people doesn't even show up on the radar compared to 150,000 + when it comes to the news .

The State of California will first send aid (and they already have). The Federal government, after the disaster is over (the rains are stopping today) will assess and declare relief aid and effort. The wheels are in motion already to respond to the flooding and mud slides and damage that happens in California almost every year.

Why should the govt step in and help them at all? They should have been prepared for this. They chose to live there. There are programs to help them. They can work to pay their way. They have had opportunities in the US.SOUND FAMILIAR DATAMAX.Just because it happened to more than 1 person doesn't make it any more important.

I agree with Kevin1. If the people in california didn't have insurance, they are incredibly irresponsible.

Traigic loss of life.

1 Million dollar houses built on stilts in an area known for mudslides. It happened there ten years ago too,and these people rebuilt in the same spots.[:-]

The UN is a joke.

This is a good question Kevin. Should people in areas prone to hurricanes rebuild? What about tornado alley? Avalanche areas? When is enough enough? Doesn't this effect everyones insurance?

I was wondering the same thing especially in places like the outer banks.
