Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Should we have age limitations on SCOTUS

I cannot believe this statement out of Rehnquist... I think old age has turned his once brilliant mind to mush. I started suspecting something was wrong when he "designed" his own robe and had "pretty stripes" put on the sleeves.... he's probably wearing panties now too.

Quote:
WASHINGTON - Chief Justice William Rehnquist said in a statement to be released today that judges must be protected from political threats, including from conservative Republicans who maintain that "judicial activists" should be impeached and removed from office.

The public, the media and politicians certainly are free to criticize judges, Rehnquist said, but politicians cross the line when they try to punish or impeach judges for decisions they do not agree with.

"The Constitution protects judicial independence not to benefit judges, but to promote the rule of law: Judges are expected to administer the law fairly, without regard to public reaction," the chief justice said in his traditional year-end report on the federal courts.

I tend to agree with this part of his statement, it seems though that lately, the judicial branch has gone well beyond decisions that are merely disagreed with. Many decisions are just plain wrong and give the appearance of legislating the law from the bench rather than determining constitutionality or correctness of the law. This, is not what the constitution calls for. Rehnquist may well be ready for retirement if he thinks so or not.

Impeachment is a legal process. You must have reason.

If this was done for no good reason at all, Ginsburg would have been flayed years ago.

Impeachment is a constitutional right granted to the elected officials in the U.S.

Tell me you wouldn't mind seeing the 9th circuit court impeached... or O'connor impeached for basing her Texas sodomy decision on "european law" -- if I'm not mistaken, european law was what were getting away from.
