Default Anti-Hunters' Financial Resources Continue to Swell

Animal rights organizations across the country rake in millions of dollars to fund anti-hunting campaigns. Animal People Magazine has again published the financial information for animal rights organizations based on the analysis of IRS reports for FY 2003.

Here are the figures for several leading anti-hunting groups, as presented by Animal People. In parentheses are the budgets for recent years. Comprehensive financial information on individual non-profit organizations, including tax records, is available online at www.guidestar.com.

Sportsmen reviewing this list are reminded that the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and the Fund for Animals will merge at the beginning of the year. According to a recent report by Scripps Howard News Service, the merger will result in a mega-anti-hunting group with available funds in excess of $95 million and stated goals of ending hunting and trapping.

"These groups have been working to trample sportsmen"s rights for decades," said U.S. Sportsmen"s Alliance Senior Vice President Rick Story. "They intend to invest their millions in campaigns to ban hunting and trapping and are refining their organization to get the job done."

The newly merged anti-hunting group has launched an animal protection litigation department to challenge sportsmen in the courts. The newly restructured HSUS has announced it will also form a new legislative arm.

Gman,
Thanks for the informative post. It is also very scary. It should serve to help bring the hunting community together. I believe that "we" hunters may not realize the true size of the economic impact "we" have collectively. The information is out there, but it is difficult to collinate it all together.

Below is a fact I got from American Hunter magazine.

In 2001 hunting related purchases by hunters from Pennsylvania, Texas and Michigan were $8.16 billion combined, which generated $470.5 million in tax revenue.

$95million is a lot to spend to fight hunting & trapping, but just the hunters in PA, TX and MI outspent them almost 5-1!

It's been said that knowledge is power...

That's great, but are you comparing tax revenue and purchases to money paid to fight in letigation/legislation/and other campaigns? The two are not in the same arena.

Without a doubt sportsmen have a HUGE impact on the economy, but that does little in a court of law - what will happen is when the economy is thumped by banning hunting or what ever, then they will ease up a little bit, but by then it is too late.

Every sportsman should be involved in at least one organization that will fight in the courts, in the legislation, and campaing for that which we all love.

As I have stated before repeatedly on other threads:

WE, as hunters should unite with ALL "common sense" Outdoor recreationalists who some liberal fringe group has a problem with........
Hunters
Trappers
Atv - Orv riders
Snowmobilers
4x4 enthusiasts
Mountain bikers
Backcountry Horse riders
hell, even Loggers! (I know they are not Recreational ,but it's bread and butter to them!!)

Now if we all don't believe that ALL of those groups don't have a group of Whacko's with a bullseye on thier particular form of recreation and heritage, we are all much dumber than we give ourselves credit for!!!!!!!!
You will notice in my sgnature that I suppor t the BRC, and SAWS.... Hell - the only reason I found this site was during a liberal wilderness land grab here in Wa.
The Washington wilderness coalition PROUDLY claims 12,000 members (of which how many really live here??) as if the are an enormous group- They encourage members to give memberships as Cristmas gifts to relatives and friends (who just might not support thier agenda). In response I give BRC memberships (and these people DO support BRC principles)
Okay .........Back to this 12,000 member army of thiers;
Since the population of this state is darn near 5,000,000= that means they're about .025% or less of the populace.
There are over 36,000 (REGISTERED) snowmobiles alone in this state, not to mention ORVs, Dirt Bikers, 4x4, and just general on road vehicle people who enjoy driving these roads they want to close - so how big do they sound now
Also... in this state Anti hound/baiting hunts, and anti trapping initiatives have already been passed here......resulting in population explosoins of Cougar- now they're whining about the cats, and that thier mole and gopher traps are also illegal.
We all need to unite and kick thier butts!!!
Or as the other side says"Let it BURN!!!!"
