Why do priests or any member of the clergy get special treatment when it comes to their crimes. I'm getting sick and tired of reading about these people abusing kids and in this case rape and the proper authorities(POLICE) not doing anything. If the bishops and higher ups knew of these crimes and it can be proven they should be arrested right along with the priests.
I don't get your point? Is there evidence to prove abuse, or simply testimony from his accusers? Innocent until proven guilty is the way to go, don't you think?
My point is it isn't the Police investigating it's the church. This man has been accused of rape and many others of pedophila and the police don't get involved.
Quote:
Moynihan announced Keating's removal Wednesday after an 18-month investigation. Keating's case is being forwarded to the Vatican
How about forwarding the info to the proper authorities.

I agree by a court of law not the Vatican.

As a Christian teacher, I will sadly be the first to tell you that evil hides behind the cover of Christ. Satan preforms some of his most vile, and disgusting acts through people who pretend to be Christians. The Bible tells us this.
The world is full of godless men who practice the most unseemly behavior, in the name of Christ, from enslaving Black Men, to killing Native Americans, to molesting young boys, to wife swapping, to multiple wife taking, to attacking peaceful Nations, and so forth.

I thought there might be a statute of limitation holding them back, but Maine has no such statute for sexual crimes involving a child (just checked). Why the police aren't involved is a mystery to me. I suppose the alledged victims have not filed criminal charges. From what I gathered in the article, they are only pursuing a civil suit. That could have a lot to do with it as well.
In NY the victim doesn't have to file the criminal charges the State can do it.
Another point many times the statute of limitations passes because the diocese covers the crime up or pays off the victi,m. Which is illegal on it's own merits.

Well, New York does lots of things on its "citizens behalf". If those women want the priest to serve jail time, they need to file. What good is a charge if the victim isn't the one leading the fight towards convinction?
I am not Catholic, but I do know deep down that IF I was Catholic, and back in the 60's, I got too close to a priest (you know where I'm heading with this...[&:] ), he wouldn't get the chance! I'd be outta there in a flash! I was raised to know right from wrong. I'd kick the priest in the knee and run like H*LL!!! Then tell my parents, my friends, my teachers, the newspapers, the TV, ....everybody! I know this migh be out of line, but how could children allow it to happen to themselves?
