I'm glad you started this thread because I was thinking of starting one like it.
Rumsfeld was essentially given a pass by logs and few other board members here. Clearly he did not deserve it. In about a weeks time, something like 4 BILLION dollars was suddenly available and earmarked for armor.
Apparently some Americans have themselves so wrapped up with patriotism that its restricting their brains. How many of the recent deaths of our service men and women in Iraq could have been prevented by providing armor as suggested in a conflict that is 18 months along?
This is an important topic. If Rumsfeld or anybody else responsible is NOT getting armor to iraq as quick as possible, the situation should be fixed first and then hold Rummy, et al accountable.

I heard on Hannity last night that one year ago, about 230 humvees had armor. Now between 15,000 and 18,000 have armor. I beleive it is deplorable to send ANY vehicle over there unarmored. But much HAS been done. Defense spending was cut considerably during the 90's, and this type of warfare was not anticipated, so didn't get its share of the scarce dollars. At least things need to be put in perspective. Many media outlets want you to think no humvee has any armor over there, and it is all Rumsfeld's fault.

It's called the law of diminishing returns. Perhaps every soldier should have his very own 17 Billion dollar tank that is nuke proof.
