Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default The Biggest Loser!.....

...Stealthycat was quite possibly right....

Stealthycat wrote a thread some time back in which he complained that America is growing conspicuously overweight and he stated rather flatly that he felt that it was completely avoidable.

While that sounds harsh and I disagreed with him at the time, I am leaning in that direction after having witnessed the transformation that the contestants went through on the reality show called The Biggest Loser.
So far, nearly every one on the show has, with concerted effort, discipline, diet, excerise, and good trainers, lost serious amounts of weight.

Does it prove that it is a matter of discipline? Or is it just too hard for some people?

I do know this...Stealthy mentioned all the overweight folks he saw at the shopping malls and so on. Well, I've been doing a bit of shopping myself lately, and I cannot help notice that we have an inordinate amount of contestants out there.

Your opinion?

Why are we so fat? Ultimately it's a matter of personal discipline, but MARKETING hasn't helped. The marketing works because of our biology & physiology.

Why are we so fat? Think about these questions.
1. Why fry cheese?
2. Ever heard of batter fried candy bars? (got'em in Scotland)
3. How popular is what we call pizza? Look at how many different ways cheese is incorporated into pizzas in the US and look at pizzas made in Italy.

Look at the food in a belly buster Chinese buffet, and if you can ask what the onwers eat at home. If they're Chinese, some of it may look similar, but weigh a whole lot less.(it'll taste a whole lot better too, but that's my preference)

Bon Apetit!

I like this show. But, if I could be put up for a few months, with thousands of dollars worth of training and consulting, and 24 hour a day monitoring, I could loose weight a lot easier. Not to mention, family stress, work stress, daily living... it's all on hold for a while. I don't know about all the people out there, but I eat when I'm stressed.

These folks, like me, got fat on their own. They are not getting fit on their own. But God bless them. The ones who have left the show seem to have learned enough to maintain healthy diets and lifestyles.

I think obesity is lifestyle. Overcoming obesity means changing lifestyle. To make that change takes discipline, yes vc. To maintain healthy living when you are so used to, well to put it bluntly, glutteny, yes that takes discipline too.

But the people on this show are being disciplined by trainers, and motivated by each other and by the prospect of winning.

Whatever it takes, I guess. If that translates to self discipline, which as I mentioned earlier, it seems to have with some of those folks, then great.

BTW, I don't think I'm fat enough that people at the mall look at me and see a contestant. I hope I have the discipline to never get that way.

Spending an hour a day on internet forums instead of going for a walk makes people fat.

Because it tastes so good, BTW the first time I heard of/experienced fried cheese was in Venezuela where it is a common treat and the majority of the population is definitely NOT obese.

There's no mystery as to why I'm overweight ,
I'm a lazy slob who doesn't excercise and eat right . I don't obsess about it though , I just accept it and try to motivate myself to change . So far I've been a stunning failure in the motivation department ... [&o]
