Dems to Study Possible Primary Changes

Officials in Iowa and New Hampshire vigorously oppose any changes. They argue that voters in those states are uniquely engaged in the primary process and give candidates a tough vetting, while a national nominating process would focus on large cities and neglect rural areas.

Interesting thoery, but I don't buy it. If rural Iowa and New Hampshire can vote for such a liberal candidate, what difference does it make if the "big cities" have such a role? Democrats everywhere need to choose middle-of-the-road politicians if they want to win it big across the country. The DNC doesn't seem too comfortable with that idea, at least not right now.

i never understood why they got to vote in primaries before everyone else anyway...

i really don't care either way what they decide. i vote for who i like, whether it's the primary or the general election.

you're right-the DNC isn't comfortable with it because that apparatus is controlled by seasoned, northeastern ideologues who are more interested in maintaining their grip on party power than they are in winning elections. The DLC ( a much more moderate group of the party) i believe supports changing the primary system.
