Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Serious question: What will this world be like in the future?

I'm talking about 10, 20, 50, even 100 years from now. What will be here for our kids... their kids? Will we be ruled by a one world government? A cashless society? Will we maintain our rights to keep and bear arms? Will we be able to vote? Really, how long will our freedoms last? Will we be able to hunt? Ever think about what the future really holds?

Many things have got me thinking about this lately, one in particular is a report I heard the other night on the population. This doctor of something holds a notion that the world isn't producing at a rate that will be able to maintain the population due to infertility, abortions, birth control measures, etc. Not so sure about that, but believe in population control methodologies, mainly because of the times we are in. (Found my tin hat again.)

LOL ...I remember just a few years ago when all the in-the-know folks were saying we would soon over-populate and we were all going to starve.

Thanks

Some things will modernize yet many things will remain the same. I think many of these crackpot naysayers are simply that--Crackpots. They predict we'll all die from the ozone being depleted, have widespread riots at the 1st day of the new millenium (remember Dec 31st, 1999) and many other equally stupid and assinine theories and predictions. We'll still have guns, still hunt and pretty much all of us on this BBS will be dead by then anyway. Hopefully we'll all be meeting in the happy hunting ground in the sky.

As I grow older my cynicism grows. I have little faith in any of the politicians in the world and less in the average person. I envision a time when the politicians finally believe they have sufficient control over the non-contributing members of society and drop the other shoe by announcing a suspension of all civil rights for the middle and upper categories of wage earners. They will then have the total control they want and it will be generations before enough people finally understand what happened and consider another revolution to throw off the chains they find themselves in.
Populations are self leveling to a degree, if it were not for modern medicine and our access to it, the world population would be a fraction of what it is today. Natural selection, survival of the fittest, has been circumvented to a point where even the weakest and least likely to be able to contribute to society live for some extended period to the financial detriment of society as a whole. Please do not take this to mean I would deny them a chance, it is merely an observation.
I am not bright enough to provide any solutions, I have no influence over most people and there is nothing that says I am correct or that my views are any more correct than anybody elses, they are merely my views.

So are you saying you are worried about our freedoms, but at the same time you are suggesting population control methodologies?

What will the world be like in 100 years?

1. Cabelas will sell vintage replicas of Remington 700s, 870s and 1100s. "Now you, too, can own an authentic reproduction of the gun your great, great grandfather used to put food on the table and fear in the Liberal."

2. Bass Pro will sell three, five or seven-day fishing trips to Mars. "With 1/7th of the Earth's atmosphere, you can cast a bead-head prince nymph three-quarters of a mile on the Red Planet." Thanks to the spacesuit you must wear, roll-casts are still a bitch.

3. Ford owners will still hate Chevy guys, and Chevy guys will still hate everyone.

4. That early 1950s .22 rifle belonging to your dad, the one currently sitting neglected in your closet, will sell for $24,865 on eBay.

5. Wal-Mart will have a small booth inside every home in America. 79-year old "Welcome to Wal-Mart!" greeter and all.

6. Zebco 33s will still be the defacto reel for teaching kids and fishing drunk.

7. Cash will be replaced with credit or debit cards at all bow shops. Wait a minute...

8. Camouflage will be so advanced, your wife won't even know you're gone.

9. Gun design advancements will enable accurate 1,000-yard shots to become commonplace and affordable. Muzzleloaders will still shake their heads and mumble cusswords at the thought.

10. The popularity of NASCAR will grow to unprecidented numbers. So much so that a new, larger-than-ever track will be required. Its name? Rhode Island.

Bob asked a serious question (it even says so in his subject line). If you read through the list again, you'll see my honest thoughts on the subject. Consider it "social commentary with a grin".

Todd I hope it takes a lot less than 100 years!!

I was worried about the future for quite a while until the country started to wake up and begin to return to our middle of the road/conservative roots that made us so great a nation, if the trend continues as long as it doesn't swing to far to the right the future appears much brighter than it did appear 10 years ago, hopefully some day Europe will wake up before communism or true socialism takes it over!

I think we are headed for a cashless, socialist society, with very liberal conditions. They will not be called liberal thought they are already calling themselves Progressives. In the major cities, the densely populated areas, people need to be more tolerant of each other and that is why we see that part of the US as the Blue states. NY city makes NY a Blue stae, not the rual area.
Look how FL and OH always seem to hang in the balance of Blue or Red.

As the world population grows and non Christian numbers increase it will occur in a geometic progression with the population rate. Acceptance of diversity and sub cultures. Do what you want but give me my space type of thinking.

Europe is already heading that way at a faster rate than anyone expected. The common currency, the united front for money regardless of the source, the trade agreements.

Just watch the next four years.
In this country the liberals will do what they must in minuet steps. They are already, less than 30 days after the election, changing their definition position of abortion or prochoice. They are calling themslves progressives because liberal isn't a pleasent or acceptable position. They now support the troops but hate the War. They don't with few acception spit on the returning Soldiers as they did in the 60's and 70's.
They are flexible enough to slip under the door of the voters then twist the legislation bit by bit to what they want. They will make this country and eventually the world a liberal cesspool.

Look how socialist countries have accepted socialized medicine. Low quality long waits but what the heck, it's free. Well it is costing them plenty and so will the rest of it.
Look how the schools push accepting homosexuality "Christi has two Mommies".
Our greatgrand children will think nothing of two men kissing in public and all the things that go with it
The secular society of anything goes, if it feels good do it and Go along get along thinking.
Now that is Progressive.
[:'(][:'(][:'(]

Places like Iran where they have an Islamic State, tolerate nothing but what the book says, will live a social culture of the year 700AD and a technowlogy of the current day. In the end they'll nuke the New City and leave it in rubble.

Seriously, I KNOW for a fact that someday (don't know time frame) there will be NO currency, only electronic money and I also know there will one day be a one world religion. If you want to know HOW I know that, i would highly suggest splurging on the book "The Late Great Planet Earth" by Hal Lindsey. You can pick up a used copy on Ebay for about $3 total with shipping... if you want to know what's REALLY going to happen without having to guess, I'd highly suggest this book.
