Default Canadian relations????

A question for a Canadian visitor or anyone who understands their thinking????
Bush has made a visit to the north, Canada. Recent surveys of Canadians indicate that about 60 % of the teenagers see us as beneath them, the US being wrong on most issues.
Others indicate that 90% of Canadians favor their relationship with the US. They see us as friends.

The saying out of the Maple Leaf is "You are bigger but we are better".

Since NAFTA went into effect the trade between the US and Canada has increased 125%. That has to be good for both of us but more so for Canada than the US.

I have long been discussed with the arrogant attitude of the Canadian government. I will no longer travel there nor purchase goods produced there.
They are not a world power, 75% of their adult population is made up of service workers and they think the french are on the right track on almost every issue.
Well if 90% of their adult population favors the USA, how can such a government exist? Who is electing these liberal frankos and why?

So do you believe that the USA is better than Canada, or any other Nation for that matter???

I believe the US is independent of every other country and that Truman Capote is not a very good namesake for you as he was a girly man.

Good question logs, I must assume, as dangerous as that is, that the majority of Canadians have the same problem as we do here in the U.S. They are too damn lazy to make themselves heard at the polls! The old silent majority syndrome at its worst.
As for the Canadian teenagers, they will come around in about 10 years, after they have tried to make a living in their own little socialist corner of the world with an inadequate education. Time will tell.
There is also the problem there, as it is here, that the population centers control the political sector and the remainder of the country is ignored (Red vs Blue) as long as those in the cities have their Bread and Circuses they will remain content. Woe to the politician that is even remotely associated with any attempt to take away any perceived benefit due the populace that lives on the dole.

This has been all over the news - Fox, CNN, etc.... They reported that President Bush did not even deliver his speach for fear of opposition. At least the Pres was willing to joke about it: "It's good to see everyone wave. With all five fingers." Or something to that effect.

Actually, it's rather sad that Canada seems so against the war and the US. Afterall, what would they do with their garbage?

Being a Canadian myself I say that the few in Ottawa control the whole country. They don't speak for all of Canada. There are for more Bush bashers in the U.S than here .I for one don't really care who runs the U.S its your bussiness not mine, you voted for him so he is your leader. But he doesn't run Canada. We don't have to jump up and down whenever you say.So quit the Canada is opposing you baloney. And speaking of world power, what is that supposed to mean.Your better then us because you have a stronger military.I was hoping that our relations would get better but with posts like some here I don't think it will happen soon.

I personally believe that the United States is superior to ever country on the globe bar none, and I'm not afraid to say it. BTW, what state is Canada in anyway?

Fair enough questions trac209. Canada is like a younger brother to the U.S. We speak the same language (at least in BC), have many of the same goals and generally are on the same side in wars, etc. Like any other family, we get irritated the most when a family member disagrees with us and it seems like a betrayal somehow of family trust and bond. It probably doesn't help that your news media people choose to broadcast the Canadians who oppose the U.S. and ignore the Canadians who support the U.S.

As you might have noticed, U.S. bashing appears to be the rage among the countries of the world and many of us are getting po'd about it. Our countries do need to work out many details like fine-tuning our trade laws, tightening up border security to prevent terrorism, etc. However, many Americans are focusing on the many countries who are publicly condemning and bagging on us so we're kind of touchy right now, which clearly shows in this BBS. As for your comment about Canadian--U.S. relations not getting better soon, that depends on BOTH sides making an effort and not just writing the other off.

First, i'm not going to get into a pi$$ing match over whose better. I'm canadian. I neither like nor dislije Americans. I feel the same towards you as most of you feel towards me. i try to see us as equals and partners, not superiors. But let me say this. Your govt. has ignored every rule set by nafta regarding our lumber and cattle. I live in the heart of cattle country. Since the
U.S shut down the borders, our industries have been crippled to the point where whole communities are almost to the point of shutdown. Don't talk to us like were the ones to blame.
