Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default How do you represent yourself?

The last time I think this question was asked, it was asked by Static..my mentor for moderating, one of the best HNI ever had. I also considered him a friend. That said....

Who is the person we see when you are here? The real you, an alter ego or just entirely different than what and who you are in real life? Note: We already know that several here have/are "alter egos" so.....

As for me I am who I am always...online and off, rarely will I play devils advocate but have been know to do so on occaision. lol

Hey Static...your still listed as a moderator, where the heck are you???!!

Well I have on occasion played devil's advocate, but what you see is what you get with me, I will admit that now that I am a mod I bite my tongue and simply say nothing where before I was a mod, staying within forum rules I did not hesitate to express all of my opinions with no punches pulled. That does not mean that I pull punches when I do post, it is just that some topics or certain replies I now choose to simply not post because some threads/replies look like they are heading down the road of deletion or being locked and as a mod I do not want to fuel the fire.

This is an interesting question. I am pretty much on this board what you would see in person. I talk about politics a bit more on this board than real life but I expect many other posters do so also. Many of my opinions are rooted in my experience in the Marines (Semper Fi Taz) and in being a cop for 14 years. A lot of my opinions are rooted in being a Christian and with the bible reading I've done. I try to practice the golden rule (Do unto others as you would have them do unto you) at work, in life and on this board. Many times it works and sometimes it simply doesn't. As I get older, I realize more and more than I am far from perfect (ah the days of thinking I knew it all in youth) and become more open to listening to another's opinion.

I've found that it often takes me a year before I can truly form an honest assessment and opinion of some people on this board. Some people I like very quickly and others take me much longer to figure out and decide what I think about them. I've also found that it often takes most of us a year (or sometimes longer) to hit our stride and learn to effectively communicate our thoughts and ideas in this format and learn that our opinions are often going to be changed or modified somewhat by the brilliance that is often demonstrated on this board.

I am the same off or on this board. I do my best to get along with everyone but true liberals are to much for me to cope with. The 2nd ammendment it what I vote on every time. Without it, we have nothing.

I also find this an interesting question but for different reasons than Cal.
How we see ourselves is not necessarily how others see us. No matter how hard one may try to project a certian image it does not always come off as they wish.

I don't try for a particular image of myself. I type what I beleive. Things I know to be true in my heart and mind and try to share my life learned and observed experiences with others.
As most here can determine, I just type, don't do a lot of editing. I don't type my post in Word, then spell check or use the thesaurus ( I looked that one up), I just try to catch what I can. Im no intellect and I have been told that here very recently so I now know for certian of it.

There are some post and poster on the board that I avoid because I see no reason to "get into it" with them over nothing of importance. Some times I fail. Im human. Well some might argue that point.

I believe I represent myself in a stright forward matter. What you see is what you get.
I look at this mug in the mirror when I shave every morning, I don't want to see what Dorian Grey saw looking back at me.

Extremely good and valid point logs! It might be interesting to hear how others perceive us but that would probably start a huge dustup in here.

BTW, who is Dorian Grey?

Cal, Dorian Grey sold his soul to the devil in exchange to forever be young. He would not age but a portrait of Dorian kept covered and hidden aged in his place.
Dorian lived a life of lust, feast, debauchery and sin. No one saw him for what he was but he knew and he began to regret his deal. When he removed the veil that concealed the portiat he could not believe the monster he saw. ( It's a longer novel than that but you get the picture)

One can use the anonymity of the forum to hide their sins, their lust and project some image pleasing to others and for a period for themselves. But there will always come a time when the veil is removed and the creature that lurks beneath jumps out and scares the hell out of you.

Sort of whats going to happen to bill and hillary someday

I think I am much more skeptical, and thus sarcastic, when I'm on the board then in real life. I believe little if anything I read on the net. I know only a few who post on this board, and frankly I stay a little gaurded. I have had several people email me wanting to come to Montana and hunt, however, I have never responded to any of them. I don't know who is who, and I can't help but feel people want me to be their personal guide so they can get a free or next to free elk hunt out in Montana. For a guy who is honest and loves to hunt but can't afford an elk trip, I would be more then happen to share my knowledge, but I have no way of determining who is for real. So I guess I try to be honest, but am a little skeptical of a lot of the other posters. I think if I knew some more posters, I would probably like some in real life I don't like on the board, and dislike some I like on the board. After a while, you sort of get used to some posters and tend to develop a favorable opinion of some, and not others.

I'm as close to being "me" on this forum as I can get.

There are some things I don't get into because I can not express myself in print as well as in person, face to face.

What I do say here is what you would hear if talking to me face to face, or on the phone.
Most issues that are examined here are talked about by me and friends (sometimes they are not friends, just someone I know) on a daily basis.
Regardless, they all get the same "opinions."
