Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Which hunting group.

Our pastor in our church sermon this past Sunday talked about using your energy to pick the fights that you need to pick and to leave the petty fights alone. Which got me thinking on which group I could use my energy to pick the fight I believe the most in. Protecting the right to hunt!
I am trying to decide which group to become involved in to help this fight.

Currently I am a volunteer for the MDF which I believe needs the most attention to because the Mule deer herds are the ones declining.

I however am also a member of RMEF, BASS, DU and lifetime NAHC. Execpt for the NAHC all are conservation groups that do little to protect the right to hunt. I will still be involved with the MDF because of I believe that it will concentrate on the Mule / Blacktail deer which are in need of the most help currently.

As far as my internet research I can find it looks like the ones fighting the anti's are NRA, SCI, SWF and USSW.

The focus of those groups seem like they are as follows.

NRA - gun rights

SCI - ?

SWF - hunting but concentrate on trophy's which in most cases restrict hunting opportunities. Which it seems has members fighting internally about this.

USSW - seems to be well rounded and the one I am leaning towards. They are already getting letters out about the current assault on bowhunting.

If members of these orginizations could shed some light better on these orginizations to help me out on my decision.

I would like to know how the money is spent. What percentage goes to administration, fund raising, ect.

I would like to know what they are doing at the state/national level. And how they do it.

I work for my money and what to get the best bang for my dollar. If I could I would help them all but since I am not wealthy I need to pick one that I can do the most with.

Thanks everyone.

SCI does the lobbying for protecting your right to hunt.

Dperry, I think you will probably be happy with just about any of those groups once you check them out closer. I'm a lifetime NRA member and continue supporting them when I can. I currently belong to SCI and like their pro-hunting approach also as it compliments what the NRA does for 2nd Amendment rights. I've previously belonged to RMEF, NWTF and DU--All are good groups. I am not familiar with SWF or USSW so can't say anything about them. I've been looking at the MDF and some of their affiliated groups as they appear to address specific issues like decline of muledeer and their habitat. So many good groups and I can't afford to join and sponsor all of them either.[&o]

I used to belong to NAHC and had several bad experiences with them. I did not like their heavyhanded sales tactics and caught some of their people being dishonest. I no longer belong to that group and would never consider rejoining. They used to put out a decent magazine but it began to get way too commercialized. I don't hearing that they do any conservation activities or political lobbying. Hopefully you're having a better experience with them since you're already a life member.
