I'm new here. Been reading around the different areas for a bit and decided to join ya'll. Haven't read all the topics here, but have figured out there's a good bunch of people here that are backing our boys over there in the sand. I have often wondered what the point of being over there is and exactly what freedom or who's freedom we are fighing for. Don't get me wrong, I voted for Bush and in full support of this fight over there, but wondered sometimes why. To get rid of terrorists? To help the Iraqis get on their feet after getting their murdering no good leader out, and that will help us and the world? Don't really know the answer. Thought you all would have a better opinion on this than me. Thanks.
Think future stepping stone in the Middle East ,
a country started by us , dependant for their survival on us , and they just happen to sit on the second largest oil patch on Earth . Also consider the ramifications of establishing the first democratically ruled country in that part of the world and what it could mean to world peace later . The ME is a historically unstable place , but what would happen when the other Arab countries see one of their own enjoying the benefits that western style democracy provides .

We're fighting for the freedoms we were born with, including those protected by the Constitution. America has gotten along relatively well over the centuries, but when terrorists start killing our people wholesale because we don't subscribe to their notions of Islamic theocracy, the time to act has come. We are the defenders of freedom and liberty, and those concepts are desperately in need of defense around the world.
As Bush has said very clearly, there is a good and evil in the world, and you're either with us or against us as we destroy evil. We're over there in several hotspots of terrorism, and we're keeping our promis to the American people and to the world. If you support terrorism, down you go.
Move to Iraq and live for a few months and you'll get the picture. Or if you'd been at ground Zero on Sept 11th of 2001 you might have a better understanding.

Would you please explain to me what Iraq had to do with 9/11? I've almost finished the 9/11 commision report and they couldn't find a direct link between the two maybe you could save me reading the rest.
BTW,According to the constitution our military isn't supposed to be used to build nations.

I think we are there to root out the terrorists and for the security of our land, but I'd be hard pressed to think that's the only reason. I'm sure oil, as kevin1 pointed out has a lot to do with it. I also believe there's a bigger picture none of us have grasped yet. Not sure what it is, but have a sneaking suspicion it's about our economy, and more so the global economy, A.K.A. New World Order. (Shhhh, don't say NWO too loud around this group though, they'll start throwing stones and stuff at you. )
