I am very curious what all of the conervatives/rebublicans have to say about the mass exidose of Bush's cabinet. I am not a history major and can't remember in years past, but isn't this a bit non-typical. I mean to have that many leave and some real biggies at a time when they are needed most. That seems quite odd to me. Do they know something we don't????? Are they sick of Bush?? Were they secretly hoping for his defeat????? Seems a bit more than just a coincidence to me. But what do I know, I am just a non-rebublican? Must be some liberal conspiracy??

I have wondered about that also doughboy but have concluded that a person could very easily get tired of all of the long hours, pressure cooker frantic activity, time away from your family and BS when almost every single one of them is at retirement age or close to it. I mean how many of us would seriously want to dog ourselves with those long hours for 8 years when we're ready to retire. After you put in 4 years, you could easily feel like hanging it up and letting the Presdient recruit somebody else's help so you can enjoy some time with your family. You want to enjoy at least some of your golden years without worrying about everything. I could be wrong but bet almost every single person resigning has considered some of this.

These are incredibly high stressed jobs that I doubt anyone on this board can appreciate, myself included. It is common place for cabinet members to leave after the first term, no big deal. Cabinet members make a lot of enemies and many administrations like to start off fresh for their second term. New people, new ideas, a clean slate.
I stand corrected. Were they some of the high profile positions like now?? Just curious.

Also, don't assume that just because someone resigns, it means they quit. It is quite common in politics to ask for a resignation so that the outgoing party can save some face.
Several good reason already given, historical practice, stress and now Money.
A lot of these people will, with Bush on a roll, be in position to get connected jobs that are much less stressful and more lucrative. They, while Bush is still in office, have more opportunities for speaking engagements that also pay big bucks.
The work has been hard, the criticiism sometimes unfair and the hours long. Most have served the country well and it may be time to feather their own bed in a very ethical and legal matter.

Yes, in past administrations high-profile cabinet positions have changed in the second term & sometimes within the same term. Warren Christopher left as Secy. of State after Clinton's first term, for example.
