RE: Need More Proof That Liberals Abound In Academia?
Aught:
Don't you know that these people separate their political beliefs from their teachings?? Right! When I went to school I had assistant professors that actually fought with the Sandinistas. Then they come back and spend four months villifying the Contras. Pathetic . . .

Well, I'm not going to pretend that I fully understood the article. It seems to me that there was an awful lot of ink used up to reaffirm the old addage "Birds of a feather, flock together". And being a non-intellectual myself, I say that if you are dumb enough to close yourself out of the rest of the world so as not to fully understand ALL before reaching a conclusion, then I guess maybe you aren't the brilliant mind you thought you were.

Naaa, don't need any more proof. The idea of an academic living in an ivory tower, away from reality & the real world is very evident. What we need to do, as parents, is to bring our children up in the way they should go, ground them in morality & an understanding of right & wrong, so that they can get an education while not falling prey to the liberal academic mindset. Teach our kids to tell fact from opinion, & how to get multiple views on subjects. How to think for themselves, not just take the opinion of one professor or media personality as gospel.

Hmm....very interesting. They must not have visited my campus. I seldom had more than one "liberal" professor a semester. I had a bunch that I still don't know their religion or political beliefs, they were very good at remaining neutral. I guess about half. The remainder were all Republican and were very vocal about voting Republican. Of course I wasn't in humanities, social science, or liberal arts except the few occaisons they were forced upon me.

Very interesting read...
Quite an assumption of "America" based on two polls, which by their numbers alone are very small.
But being in Academia, I would estimate that 1/10 professors, who are under the age of 60, are Republican/conservative.
If you go over that 60 age mark, that ratio is reversed.
However due to state budget restraints, the war on terror, and reduced federal spending (as per %), the older professors are being offered great retirement packages and are leaving in droves.
What we are left with is a bunch of nagging, whiny, snot-nosed brats who know how to complain without the resolve to get anything accomplished. They're also very good at finger-pointing...[&:]

Texas Tech University. Just finished my undergrad in Agricultural and Applied Economics. The Ag college is very conservative. Lubbock is very conservative. Many local races don't even have democratic challengers.
Now I'm in the law school. Not quite so conservative, but still probably more conservative than most others. Sure beats Austin!
