Thats what my co-worker has told me time and again over the past 5 years concerning his smoking cigarrettes. Very casual and laid back.
4 weeks ago he was diagnosed with cancer on his tongue, a similar cancer to lung cancer and they immediately went into surgery mode, talks of chemo, having to remove his whole tongue, lung cancer and a very short life ahead of him.
Yesterday he came back to work. They removed about 1/5th of his tongue and they thing they have all the cancer taken out. No chemo right now. Weekly visits for a year, then monthly for 2 years then bi-monthly for 2 more years I think.
Rob has quit smoking as of 4 weeks ago.
Funny how oine visit to the doctors office can change your perspective on life. Gotta die sometime, until that time is facing you straight on and then you will do anything to have more time.
After 30 years and approaching 3 packs a day the thought of cancer finally crossed my mind enough to get me to quit . Eleven months with not one ciggy !

The statement in itself is correct. The important thing is what you do in your travels between birth and death. The things you have or take control of that effect that path through life. They can be enhanced by ones behavior and practices or destroyed.
Sometimes it take a bigger hammer to get one persons attention than it does anothers

I agree, we all have to die sometime. But we also must take some responsibility for exactly when "sometime" arrives. I might get wiped out on the highway tonight, but that doesn't mean I'm going to take life for granted. More often that not, you get what you pay for.
I want to die in my sleep, like my grandpa. Not screaming like all his passengers.
If my time is up tomorrow, I don't guess I can do much about. At the same time, I don't see any need in hurrying things along. I'll stay away from suicide sticks and the like. Both of my grandfathers were smokers, and they both died from cancer a long time back. The other relatives around their age are still alive and kicking, twenty some-odd years later. Given the choice, I'll take the twenty years.

Six years ago I lost one of my sisters. She had started smoking again and we were talking about how my nephew wanted her to stop. It was Thanksgiving. She said one day she would and who knows next week you can have an anerisim or you could get run over by a car. Both happened to an Aunt and Uncle the same night a year before. Both weren't married together they were sister and brother inlaw. The following Tuesday morning she was t-boned by a dump truck.
You never know just enjoy every minute. I know I have lived a life most poeple dream of.
