Default Ashcroft quits.

He is resigning his position. Man I hate to see this guy go. He was far and away the most PRO GUN attourney General this country has had in my memory. I hope they replace him with another strong pro-gun guy.

The media killed Ashcroft. Why? Because he was a Pentocostal Christian man.

Come on now, some of the criticism was well deserved. Covering the bare-chested statue of Lady Justice labeling her "obscene" is a little over the top. Is the Venus DeMilo pornagraphy?

I quess the press slamming someone makes me think he is a good man. He was a Hero to Gun owners and wrote the first opinion in decades that stated that the second ammendment means Private ownership of guns. I quess I don't feel that a person can have to strong of moral values. The Dems found out how important moral values are when one of every five voters said that moral values was the most important issue to them in this election. All I can say is its about time.

He's not been in good health, & the job has likely took a great toll on his health. I wish him well, he's done a great job in office while under great & constant fire. I pray his replacement has the backbone to stand up to the barrages yet to come. We hunters & gun owners do owe him a great debt of gratitude for changing the mindset on the second amendment. Even during the Reagan years, the official policy of the federal government was that the second amendment didn't mean what it clearly says, that the rights of the people were that actually of a national guard type group. Ashcroft, by saying that "the people" referenced in the second amendment means the same as the rest of references to "the people" in the constitution.

Ashcroft was a good AG and did accomplish a lot of good things. It will be hard to replace him. I wish him and his family well.

I don't think that either the Justice statue or Venus DeMilo are obscene, I'm not sure that John Ashcroft does either. Draping the statue did however send a message which was obviously not well received by those it was directed at but it did get the message across of who he is, where he stands and what he stands for. No apologies and no BS. I for one will regret his resignation no matter the cause. I hope a replacement with even half the backbone will be found soon.

And what would that message be he doesn't like a womans breasts, or they should alway's remain covered.

Why is it in other countries women can walk down a beach topless and the people don't react, here it's such a big deal?
Quote:
The Statue pictured here behind Attorney General John Ashcroft no longer adorns the Justice Department's Great Hall. Ashcroft has repeatedly voiced objections to posing for pictures before this display of partial nudity.

Initially, Eight thousand dollars of taxpayer money were spent to cover the statue with blue drapes but now, the Ambassador from Saudi Arabia has presented the Justice Department with a gift. "Lady Justice" will be clad in a burqa.

"This is a great day for America," said Ashcroft at a small gathering of reporters. "There is nothing more indecent, or in need of being covered up than the human body. The old statue was obscene and pornographic. It attracted ogling perverts who would stare at her naked breast, and was a major embarrassment at formal functions." A reporter asked Ashcroft what would be done with the partially nude male statue entitled "Majesty of Law." He told us, "That piece of homosexual pornography will be replaced with a statue of a true American hero, former Attorney General Edwin Meese, whose groundbreaking report on pornography inspired me to fight smut."
There is nothing more indecent, or in need of being covered up than the human body Boy there's a staement. Makes him sound like a nut job to me. Give him a sledge hammer and he would proably destroy alot of great works of art.

As far as the statue thing went he was out there, but for the most part he did well and I wish him all the best.
