Social medicine, sounds great doesnt it.
Like Canada has, right??? Wrong. I have a friend up North in Canada. He has been put on a waiting list for over 6 months for a knee surgury. He has now been bumped up another 6 months. This knee surgery is a simple ACL reconsturction. I had it done in three days after being diagnosed. I was up and walking within days. Most of the kids I have coached have this kind of work done within a week of diagnosis, yet in Canada you must wait months????? ?Why is that, I thought social medicine was a good thing. A little something about free joint injuries, they dont get better with time. Actually they get worse. This friend of mine is now to the point the tracking is so bad in his left knee, he can no longer walk. He will be on crutches for this next 6 months awaiting his surgery.[:@][:'(]
Just a little food for thought.

Free isn't worth a hill of beans when you can't get in to see a doctor. I can imagine what socialized medicine is like. It will probably be like our military health care system, slow and unreliable.
If you had two concessions stands at a ball game where one was selling beer and one was giving away free beer, which line would be the longest? I think a lot of people would pull out a few bucks so they wouldn't have to wait in that ridiculous line anymore. Which line do you want to wait in?
Free if you consider paying higher taxes on smaller income than us to be "free" ...
Most of the Canadians I know have a difficult time making ends meet , and from what I saw while visiting there our standard of living hasn't quite made it North of our border as far as they're concerned . Most lived in apartments because they simply couldn't afford the price of a house , I've never seen so many apartment buildings in my life . In Montreal a house the size and type of mine fetches over $200,000 , and I certainly don't live in a mansion .
Socialized medicine is free ? Not hardly pilgrim ...

Burnie, you must be lying, because every Democrat says the Canadian system works flawlessly.
I know, your right. lol Funny thing, Clinton would have died under his proposed plan. He would have been put on a waiting list to see the cardiologist. What did they say, he had about three days to live in the condition he was in. The wait to see a cardiologist in Canada is at least 5 days. I posted this because my friend has missed two hunting seasons because of this injury. Most americans are up and running with in days.

I suppose that is how they keep a lid on costs, just make the damn system so painful that many people just don't seek care. I have thought that the biggest problem with a national health care program would be drawing a line for what would be paid for and what would not be paid for "Sorry, that procedure is too expensive. You have no recourse but die. Next!"
A universal healthcare system that could provide the low hanging fruit of healthcare -- provide the 80% of useful healthcare for 20% of cost -- might be a good idea, but how do you stop the creeping of the covered treatments? "We will innoculate all children and set all simple fractured arms. We don't pay for triple bypass operations (which most often result from a lifetime of self-abuse from over eating and smoking cigarettes and not exercising), and we don't pay to set complex fractures of bones. Next!!!" What politician could hold the line and get reelected while insisting on keeping the line stable? But if the line weren't drawn, how expensive does the care become? How much does a triple bypass operation cost? $75,000 maybe? I would rather let the guy needing the triple bypass die and send about three kids through college on this same batch of money.
So I am anti-national healthcare system. It would bankrupt us and result in piss-poor healthcare services for us.
