Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Why do liberals equate liberty and freedom with fear?

I think it's not so much fear of being taxed so much as it's the realization that you can't keep raising taxes without an eventual voter backlash . The Republicans generally favor less goobermint than Dummocraps . Less goobermint means less taxes needed to run it . Most voters favor that .

Republicans may object to being taxed excessively because they feel that this supports the enlargement of government. Republicans may support a concept of limited government where government is assigned specific, delimited powers and outside of those powers government has no business or authority. Republicans may feel the government is an inefficient allocator of private funds and may distrust the competence of government to make good decisions on spending money.

Democrats may support more and more taxes because they support the central government exercising more and more authority and being involved in more and more of our everyday lives. The logical tendency of this urge is a central government which controls and allocates all economic goods and services as in a socialist or communistic economy. Democrats may believe that the government knows best how to allocate private funds.

Personally, I'm with the Republicans on this one. I don't want government growing larger and getting into my business and telling me what to do. I don't trust government much farther than I can throw it -- which isn't far -- in being competent to wisely spend my money.

Eth,

Could liberty and freedom lead to selfishness?

I can make better decisions for myself and my family than the government can. I don't need politicians intoxicated with intrusive power over my life.

If someone makes 10 times more than me, it is fair that they pay 10 times more in taxes than I do. Dumbocrats think they should pay higher RATES as well. We should all strive to be successful, not demonize success! As it is now, the top 10% of income earners, who provide the most jobs to people in this country, pay over 80% of the taxes. Instead of being grateful for that, the dumbocrats are hateful. It is class envy at its worst.

Some people think democrats care more about people than republicans, when in fact republicans want to give everyone the opportunity to provide for themselves and not suckle at the teet of handouts and total reliance on government. Democrats want as many people dependent on their handouts as possible to further their POWER over people's lives.

I do not disagree but you put the word "my" which then leads me back to selfishness......

Do any of you agree that this issue has a middle ground?

A better question to ask is why do democrats enjoy paying higher and higher taxes to be spent on give away programs to those too lazy to work for a living?
