Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

I think it was an effort to boost the Kerry health care plan.

It amazes that we still have an embargo against Cuba but trade with countries like China.

Chuckp, I agree. I dont know why we do business with China when trade with Mexico will help us as well as Mexico much much more. If we are going to outsource we should do it with Mexico and not China at all. If I had it my way I would keep the jobs in America but dont know if that is ever going to happen. I think trade with Cuba will help push that country closer to democracy than the way we are going now.

Europeans have been taking advantage of travel to Cuba for awhile and I hope they enjoy viewing the "nice" parts of the Island. I almost like the idea of free trade with them but I think it will work about as well as Nafta did. Castro and his successor Raul Castro will only buy things that enrich themselves and their party favorites and to hell with the rest of the people. There must be a reason one risks life and limb to leave a hell hole like that.

China has better infrastructure , lower average wages , few scruples about child labor , and a willingness to produce at a level that supplies our demand . Cuba is all about politics , China supposedly represents a commie country "coming around" because of our influence , blah , blah , blah ... Castro is the defiant child willing to starve his own people to keep his stubborn pride , China has pretty much become our pet bi**h . Not much of a mystery there . It's about the Bennies , nothing more .

China is not our pet. In fact, they remain a threat to our security because of their trade in military and nuclear technologies with our enemies.

If anything has caused China to "come around", it's Mao's failed economic policies. The Chinese have devestated their landscape with communist agricultural programs, and now more than half the country is sick from air/water/food pollution, not to mentiona natural disasters. Consumer consumption is steadily increasing, and they have no choice but to reform some of their ways or risk turning the entire nation into a wasteland. Besides, they know there's more money to be made in manufacturing than in agriculture anyway.
