Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default you have to let your kids fail

Building more on these comments that parents should be more careful with their children etc etc.

Children LEARN by failing. They cannot walk without falling. They cannot ride bikes without crashing. They cannot climb trees without falling. They cannot learn how to go barefooted unless they do. they cannot draw unless allowed to draw, paint unless allowed to paint and feed crocodiles without learning how to feed them

Seriously, as a parent its a very tough thing to do - letting your child fail. But they're BETTER for it, not worse, in the long run.

Overprotective parents don't get that, they don't see it nor do they understand it. And its sad.

You are absolutely right.

But just as there are parents who are too protective, there are parents who are too lax also.

Wouldn't you agree?

I agree, but the difference is ya'll want to control one side of the extreme (those who "scoiety" considers too lax) and not the other.

True or false ?

True. But what can you actually do to control the over protective ones?

I have a friend who is an over protective mom...her sister in law is the polar opposite...overly lax.

They both drive me nuts.

How about, "You should give your kids the opportunity to try. Allow them to fail and succeed. They will learn from both."

Ok, that probably wasn't the best choice of words. I should have said what can you do to encourage overly protective parents to loosen up a bit.

Is that better?

So you want a mandatory bicycle helmet law, and at the same time you want parents to loosen up. Go figure.

Yes you have to let your kids try things, but you also have to be smart enough not to set them up to fail.
