I keep hearing people accusing Bush and the Republicans of wanting or planning to reinstitute a draft for the armed services. Bush denied this repeatedly and even said so in the 1st presidential debate. I just read an article in the LA Times and noted it was a democrat who said:
Quote:
"The Iraq war has been so mismanaged that we don't have enough troops there, and the Army and National Guard are now short of their recruiting goals," Rep. Diana DeGette (D-Colo.) said. "We have National Guard troops who were told they would spend six months overseas and end up there for a year. If Bush is reelected he will have no choice but to come to Congress and ask for a draft." (The president has said he opposes reinstituting the draft, which ended in 1973.)
Is it just me or does it seem like this whole draft issue keeps being raised by Democrats only? I've noted the Demos don't say that congress would pass the draft, just that Bush will have to "ask" for a draft. This sounds like a political tactic that preys upon the fears of citizens and service people just to win an election.
Charlie Rangle, D-NY, in the House and Fritz Hollings, D-SC (sic), in the Senate have sponsored legislation that would re-institute the draft. There are 14 co-sponsors on the 2 bills. They are all Donkeys, I mean DEMOCRATS!!!!!! Yes, it's the Democrats trying to reimplement the draft and in their campaigning accusing, i.e., lieing, President Bush of having a secret plan to do so.
The Democrats are full of tricks. They are so opposed to this war and this president, and they think that the word "draft" will strike fear in the hearts of Americans everywhere and, I suppose, turn those folks against the war and against the president. I read a letter written by a young lady this week who talked about how important it was for young people to get out and vote this year because of the possibility of a draft looming that could affect all their lives. The Democrats continuously beat the drums on this but I honestly don't see it happening. Not any time soon.
The possibility of a draft is an unfortunate and sometimes requirement of war. If that's what it takes to get the job done, so be it. If I'm not mistaken, I'd fall within the age range for the draft myself. Though it's not something I would look forward to, if needed, I would be proud to serve my country in this difficult time. Piss on the Democrats who are trying to use scare tactics in their efforts to win back the White House.

I am 21 years old, and I am all for it. Here's the funny part; when the dems use scare tactics like this, instead of saying "oh my god, I am voting Democratic straight ticket so this doesn't happen," I actually think about going to OCS if they need troops that bad. If that's what needs to happen, so be it, lets roll and get this thing wrapped up already. Many generations before mine have had to bear this same burden, and if it is my turn then thats that. Screw Rangel, screw Degette, and most of all screw the terrorists.
I hope they will let me take my Marlin 45/70 though; I am not a fan of the .223
Did anyone catch the part of the debate where JK said if elected he would organize two new divisions for use at home? I wondered at the time where those two new divisions would come from, after reading this post, I guess we now know.
