Politics Nothing goes with politics quite like crying and complaining, and we're a perfect example of that.

Default Alaska Senate Race

If you haven't heard about it, Alaskan Senator Lisa Murkowski is running for reelection against former Democratic Governor Tony Knowles. Here's an email (below) I received from the NRSC (National Republican Senatorial Committee) regarding the election and Democrats' strategy. Why is this election important? If you would like to see the Republicans keep a majority control of the Senate for President Bush's 2nd term, every seat is critical and this is the Democrats' # 1 target for Senate seats.

Here's a link to Lisa's campaign.

Quote:
Dear Patriot,

Senator Lisa Murkowski of Alaska is the number one target of the national Democrats this cycle. Democrat special interests have flooded the state with negative attacks requiring the Senator to use valuable resources to defend herself and get her positive record out.

All polling shows this race to be incredibly tight. She will need your help to ensure the national Democrats aren't successful in their attempts to win this race with their millions of dollars of negative ads.

In the Senate, Senator Murkowski has been a tireless advocate for oil and gas exploration in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR). This is a jobs issue for Alaskans, but national Democrats "” like John Kerry, Hillary Clinton, Ted Kennedy and Tom Daschle "” who are beholden to the radical environmental lobby refuse to listen to facts. Those liberal Democrats are not friends of Alaskans, but they are big friends of her opponent "” pouring millions into the state for him.

Donate to Lisa Murkowski

With less than 35 days before Election Day, time is of the essence and every day that passes is another day the national Democrats attack and distort Senator Murkowski's record. We cannot risk losing this seat to the Democrats simply because Senator Murkowski was outspent in the home stretch.

Alaska is "Bush Country" "” recent polling shows President Bush leading liberal Massachusetts Senator John Kerry by 27 points! Control of the U.S. Senate could hinge on this race and losing our Republican Majority would also cause powerful Appropriations Committee Chair and Alaska Senator Ted Stevens to lose his job as President Pro Tempore "” Alaskans can't take that chance! This is a Republican seat and we can't afford to lose it.

Lisa is probably going to lose, and its her dad's fault.

See, our governor is her dad, Frank. When he ran, he PROMISED no new TAXES and he PROMISED he would leave our dividend checks alone. Six weeks after being elected, he told us he wants to tap our dividend checks AND create a sales tax. Frank is a hated man. It's so bad, she won't even use her last name on her yard signs. It's just LISA with murkowski written real small underneath.

I probably won't be voting for her and neither will a lot of us up here. Too bad but you can't treat your consitutents like fools and think it won't come back to haunt you.

SummitDawg,

It goes a little beyond if she did it or not. See, she NEVER was elected, she was appointed by her dad. So a lot of people's votes will basically be their way of saying, you WILL NOT raise my taxes, STEAL my dividend check, then turn around and appoint YOUR daughter to the Senate without consequences.

Alaskamag, out of curiousity, is her voting record good or bad? She lists several good votes on her website and at least one Republican group is trying to help her get reelected. She cites voting for Bush's tax reduction bill and supporting other good bills.

I agree that it looks bad with her dad appointing her and his increasing state taxes isn't a good thing when he promised no new taxes. That will probably get her dad voted out of office.

Cal,

Her voting record is really fairly decent, but she is NOT a true conservative. She is very pro-choice and lukewarm on gun control. She is not all that bad in reality but.......this IS politics, and we all know that tit for tat is the name of the game. Time to send her daddy a message. He is a rogue, this is the end of his political career. He has no aspirations for getting re-elected so he is GOING OUT WITH A BANG

I was wondering about her position on those issues and noted her website didn't list them. Thanks.
