NAACP is coming to town to hold their big national meeting since they are boycotting South Carolina.
Yesterday, the Mayor of Augusta removed a confederate states flag from the River Walk.(which shows a bunch a different flags)
It went unannounced untill the paper (Agusta Chronicle) picked it up. I guess we'll be hearing about it in the rants and raves for the next couple weeks.
I just thought it was silly and black mail politics for the way it went down. pun intended
Jesse Jackson's job, as it is with these self-styled "black leaders," is to keep the vast majority of the black vote on the democrat plantation. They are currently in a struggle to keep their seat of power @ the democrat table @ the same level of importance as in the past. Labor unions are in this boat also. The rise to prominence of the trial lawyers and the Hispanic vote threatens to relegate the black leadership & unions to a seat further down the table of power @ the democrat plantation. Look @ the Kerry campaign. There are no prominent black leaders involved in the campaign. Kerry's campaign entourage is very white. Labor unions had told Kerry that he must choose Gephardt as his running mate "or else." Kerry chose trial lawyer Edwards, effectively saying to the unions "or else what?" Indications say that the union members and many black people are aware of this, as a result very lukewarm to the Kerry candidacy. It will be interesting to see how this affects voter turnout, especially if the trend toward a convincing Bush victory continue.
